Did anybody else notice the Japanese warship's name was Yamato? I wonder if the "Star Blazers" ship was named after it? Or does it perhaps mean something special in Japanese...

There was a post over to a MySQL vs Postgres flame fest once (on phpbuilder, iirc) that stated that while MySQL was prone to falling over every now and then, it had never lost any data. It guess that's the end of that one then.
Does it look like RedHat have made the right choice with postgres then?

Are we going to see a post detailing today's slashdot database adventures? eg- what the probable cause was, what data was lost (besides an article about something being "always on"), what's being done to prevent such errorsi nthe future?

Please, in the interest of free speech, just don't read this if you feel the need to mod it down, otherwise read on...
i am quite tired of some of the people on this site who are quick to criticize slashdot for having downtime. I am willing to bet these same people probably have not had to face a pissed off boss and manager breathing down your kneck while trying to revive a mission critical server that is "not supposed to fail".
And these same people probably don't realize that halph your down time is for describing to your boss why some , very expensive mind you, servers that are "not supposed to fail" are in pieces on the floor.
these same people, would probably hide in the corner mindless chanting 'all your base are belong to us' while hoping the men with the white coats dont come....

hello this is gladys my husband norman was in world war 2 he fought in iwo jima one time his ship almost hit a coral reef but thank god it didn't. lois was engaged but her intended died on the bataan death march i think it's wonderful that they are finally giving the veterans a memorial i always thought it was unfair that the ones that fought in vietnam got one and my generation fought to save the world and won and we didn't get anything. i don't usually watch dan rather but i think he was right when he called the people who fought in world war 2 the greatest generation. but he still isn't as good as walter cronkite was i wish he would do the news again.

In France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands this is a criminal offense called "minimalisation" of the German National Socialist caused genocide during World War 2.
For example here is the statute from the Belgian Act of 23 March, 1995 on punishing the denial, minimisation justification or approval of the genocide perpetrated by the German National Socialist Regime during the Second World War:

Shooting you point blank with a sniper rifle is extremely inefficient. A high velocity slug is likely to pass right through you without losing much of its kinetic energy.
