Animate Quake2 Characters On Your Desktop
Ant points to the new release of amor, called: amorMD2, "Amusing Misuse of Resources -- MD2 edition, which "reads Quake 2
character files and makes them dance around your desktop for your amusement. It will run on any Posix system which has KDE/Qt installed (ie, most Linux distros, BSD's, etc)."
No replies yet and the site is already down.
Is that a new record?
Casual Games/Downloads
i suppose the next step will be to make the dancing be interactive? before you know it, we'll have a game on our hands!
Now when I try to delete files, they fight back! Damn, now I gotta practice my railgun skillz.
...to do a lap dance Ill be set!
Thanks to file sharing, I purchase more CDs
Thanks to the RIAA, I buy them used...
Here is cached google page.
Yes but every time I try to see it your way, I get a headache.
Is it the 5th grade dance hall shuffle you did? Or is it the sexy-stripper-on-a-pole-get-your-$20-out style?
Geeks wanna know!
Sent from your iPad.
Seeing as I'd have the most fun having these guys dance around while I'm at work, I must ask when a possible WinPort is available (I can't change my work OS, so don't bother asking why)? I'd read the site, but it got bombed in like 2 seconds of the posting.
Also, isn't Q2 a touch old now? Do people make skins and stuff for Q2 anymore?
Good quote, too many chars. Seriously, the slashdot 120 char limit sucks!

I will stick with my girlfriend for Valentine's day.
Any chance they would shoot the sheep which are runing around my desktop at the moment ?

best web host ever
I don't know where the project's homepage has disappeared to, but here's amorMD2's home on Freshmeat.
Well, I guess it will finally be time to go out and download those nude models that my friends were talking about. This certainly is incentive enough for me. =P

If Murphy's Law can go wrong, it will.
Sounds like a fun replacement for #$%^& clippy (for those unlucky guys that still have to deal with M$ and don't even get to choose _not_ to have that productivity killer installed)
I remember playing Quake2 online against a friend of mine and he was using a skin called "Crack Whore" not something I want to see dancing on my screen.

Yeah, I saw this one. Definitely a keeper. Since the site is down, check out the apps.kde.com info page. It has screenshots and all.

MD2 is the Quake2 model format.
I wish I had a kryptonite cross, because then you could keep Dracula and Superman away.
Now if they would only go after the other annoying bits in my computer...

Sorry guys, I was playing around with my Apache config -- believe it or not, the site going down for a few minutes had nothing to do with slashdot (actually, I didn't know it was posted there until a few minutes ago).
;)
This Ant guy has been running around the web posting amorMD2 to every software index site around. Thanks, I think
But Dammit the joke is worth it...
Can anyone post a Mirror of this in a WINDOWS version?

I could be a GREAT KARMA WHORE if I could just shed the few morals I have left.
Unless you can get rootless X on top of Aqua and you can make amor md2 run in rootless X, the answer is no.
True, but you can run rootless X alongside Aqua and they coexist quite peacefully. Heck, I'm doing it right now. I don't know about porting amor md2, but since OS X is an honest-to-god BSD it shouldn't be that hard. One of OS X's big selling points is the easy porting of *nix software.
If you're interested in running X11 apps on OS X, check out the XDarwin project. Here's some screenshots. Very cool stuff.

Have a look at this guy:
Home Simpson Doll
and the linux SW to run it!
Now, THATS cool.
These characters could be integrated into a fully 3-d environment, and used as monsters in a game. The player would navigate this environment from a "first-person" perspective, and try to shoot the monsters. Who's with me on this?
I'm the stranger...posting to
just about as soon as you can get the MSOfficeAssistant on KDE. As far as I know, Microsoft still hasn't released Office for Linux, though I could be wrong.

Forget all your problems with clippy -
someone should port this to win32 with a plugin that lets it fsck up the purple monkey. I know quite a few NetAdmins who would pay to be rid of that damn thing.
