I Wanna Watch Cartoons!
aztektum writes "Since Saturday's tend to be slow days and it is Saturday morning I thought I'd send along Cartoon Network news. Ain't It Cool has a breakdown of Cartoon Networks 2002 itinerary." Several of the
shows have been mentioned here before (Pilot Candidate and Gundam 0083 are
both enjoyable so far. As is YuYu). Mentions the arrival of new DBZ in september.
Also lots of non anime bits including Justice League (Many new episodes!).
Also new Harvey Birdman, Brak, and Sealab 2021 although Space Ghost seems absent from the roster.
Anyway, there are a lot of other shows mentioned too, but those are the shows
that I have commanded tivo to snag ;)
would be a much better replacement for Nightline than Dave Letterman.
1) he doesn't age
2) entirely removed from the depressing world of news and politics that Letterman insists on finding funny
3) Is actually funny

Here's something to try if you're bored. Cartoon Network is the only channel on my DirecTV lineup (besides the PPV movies) which I can get in Spanish. You go to the menu and change the Audio Language settings.
Not all the shows come in Spanish, but a bunch do. It's a good way to learn. I actually prefer Dexter's voice in Spanish than in English. Johnny Bravo, Scooby Doo, and lots of the old Warner Bros. cartoons work too.
First of all, they're definitely putting a lot into one channel at once. They're going to be cutting a lot of ratings-grabbers. And with all this stuff, I have a nagging feeling in the back of my head that the show that has fed me my energy for the past year or two will be gone...
SCOOBY-DOO.
I know I sound like an idiot, since it's such a big hit, but it's one of the last old-school programs left on CN. Looney Tunes is the only other big old-school cartoon on there, but it's dwindling in how much airtime it gets. Scooby is too, especially since they gave some Scooby time to WB (which sucks, because they cram so many commercials in).
Scooby-Doo is likely to be the last holdout with Looney Tunes, finally being abolished back to Boomerang. However, very few people get Boomerang. To solve this solution, I still think CN should separate into three different entities and make them all as availible as CN - in fact, they should all be availible as a package for the same price, or just slightly more. Here are my ideas for the separation, found under the last CN story a few days ago...
Maybe I'm paranoid over Scooby's possibly leaving, but if you've noticed all the CN changes over the past year or two, you should be afraid too...

That show rocks. I don't know why, probably just the combination of crappy 60's cartooning with today's humor. It's worth a watch, given it's only 15 minutes with no commercials.
I only bring this up because I woke up this morning to four hours of fresh anime that had arrived overnight. I have more of it than I have time or inclination to watch.
:)
I can get all the cartoons I want by p2p. In the case of "the Simpsons", I can see a new episode sooner if I turn on the boob tube (well, my tuner card, anyway) but I already see most of these toons (the ones I actually want to watch) subtitled by fans long before cartoon network gets around to rebroadcasting them sans anything raunchy and with lousy voice talent.
It isn't even that much trouble - taken as a total, turning on whatever software and running it overnight is less time than I would spend watching commercials if I watched them on TV. Why would I ever?
Seriously; what value added does Cartoon Network provide?
I think that US anime is a coal-mine-canary for the whole audio-visual-content industry; which is an appreciable slice of the boysenberry pie which is world economic output. That which is a minor annoyance for dedicated geeks to do today will be routine for any consumer no more than ten years hence. So - are video pirates like me (Yar!) going to appreciably sour the audience for Cartoon Network's anime? Or, is it nothing but good fan recruitment for anime generally?
Hard numbers would sure be nice, if some blessed sould has them - searches on google spit back mostly links to slashdot
The good and new comes from no quarter where it is looked for, and is always something different from what is expected.

...here you'll notice that there are no new Space Ghost scripts listed after 1999. I always thought that it was the best one, showing cluelessness at its finest. It's a shame too, but hey, maybe they ran out of ideas. You know how it is.

I'm still waiting for someone to air episodes of the original Voltron series.
Watch DBZ on the International Channel it's un-cut and in japanese (sorry no subtitles). It's a lot more fun, and you haven't laughed until you see Master Roshi defeat a giant dragon with a equally giant fart! They just cut too much and ruin the jokes in the US version. IC is also showing Slayers (subbed) after DBZ. If you like J-pop you can catch HEY HEY HEY Music Champ just gefore DBZ.
If you don't mind the mindless, censored, cut for commercials crap they show on TV networks, fine. However if you want something of a bit higher quality, then I suggest trying anime:
1. Start researching anime on the Internet, find something to your taste, and give it a try. I suggest any Miyazaki flic for starters.
2. After that find a local anime club. Chances are that they have a nice video collection that you can check out for *FREE*. You'll also be introduced to every aspect of anime, and you'll know what to look for now.
3. Now you've probably noticed that fansubbed anime is quite nice in that you get to see material you would probably NEVER EVER SEE IN YOUR NATURAL LIFE. Start buying tapes from distributors.
4. IRC has numerous channels dedicated to anime and "digisubbing." I suggest you check them out.
5. www.streamload.com is a media trading service that has HUGE amounts of bandwidth. People trade anime collections now that are monstrously huge (over 1TB). Search for streamload trade forums on Google.
6. Go to Manga and Anime conventions.
If you get to this point, I doubt you'll ever turn back.
Are the only ones I really like. Does any one remember OverCat from Underdog? He was the evil cat that lived in the heavens and would pound his fist saying "I want my milk!". I really like the old cartoons because they had appeal for adults too. There are a lot of things in those old cartoons that would go right over the head of a child or even teenager. The Simpsons are the penultimate example of that. Have fun tooning!
If not, why does it need an itinerary?
This is what they want us to pay for.

Anyone else miss the classic cartoons that just aren't on tv very much anymore. I personally thought Garfield was the coolest show along with the Loony Toons and all those. Now all the cartoons are crazy half anime techno thrillers. Just doesn't appeal to me like Willey Coyote and RoadRunner.
I don't think 54 episodes are enough to finish the majin buu saga.. they left off at episode 221(235j) and episode ?257(271j) Majin buu is still around and pretty powerful.
From what I understand the Buu saga goes all the way to episode 291j of DBZ after which DBGT takes over after the saga is resolved. But I could be horribly mistaken as I've only seen scattered episodes between 221us and 271j.
If anyone knows for certain where the buu saga it would be helpful. I know i'm going to be watching the new episodes when they come out mmmm... I'm watching the episodes the brought out last season for about the 7th time just because there is nothing better on TV that I know of.

...Serial Experiments Lain. Considering it's another Pioneer title and CN and Pioneer seem to have a symbiotic relationship now, it's a natural. There is only one theoretically objectionable reference in the entire mini-series, and that's a reference to masturbation that can easily be excised and is not germane to the plot.
C'mon, CN...DO IT! Rev up Protocol Seven and link Adult Swim to THE WIRED!!!!
Knowledge is power. Knowledge shared is power multiplied.
Sorry to be a grammar Nazi, but it's 'Saturdays'... You should never put in an apostrophe to make something plural.
They haven't played it yet! It is Annoying me to no end!!! It looks like that may be a part of the new episodes on in September!
At the next eco-hypocrisy-meeting, count the private jets used to get to the meeting. Should be interesting to see that
Personally, I'm looking forward to the new TMNT series coming out. It'll be done by the team that did Batman Beyond. The cool part is that it will be returning to the dark style of the original comic book. And no Venus!
An entirely CG feature film is also in the works.
Imagine my surprise, when I stumbled over a Sea Lab 2021 episode on the net, the one with the Feng Shui master, some weeks ago. Not only brought it back some pleasant youth memories, but this kind of recycling was so cool and funny, I nearly wet my pants laughing. :-)
How I want that Cartoon Network/Toonami/Adult Swim (but with no anime censorship!!) over here. German pay tv is struggling to get subscribers, but they bet only on traditional horses (like formula one racing, Bundesliga soccer, softp0rn and early tv showings of movie blockbusters - a very boring setup).
There is a Cowboy Bebop movie called "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" which takes place in the story continuity somewhere before the two last episodes of the TV show.
As you said, the ending of the show is final.
Bebop wasn't designed to be a long running franchise.
