Ever wonder why these things are still around and what makes them different from a PC or UNIX box? The article is IBM-centric so there's no discussion of say the CDC Cyber series but when most people don't even believe that mainframes exist anymore, what the hay, let's disabuse them of that notion first. Hopefully, the author will follow up with the additional promised articles that go into more technical detail but this is a good place to start. I wonder if they still make card readers, too?" This guide came out last month, but it's worth looking through, even just for the pictures.

    sorry if i'm being callous or something, but I really thought that this was a flimsy article, the pictures could have probably been fetched from Google just as easily

    I hate to look down on slashdot submissions, but this really is rather weak

    Just out of curiosity, moderators, how is the parent post Informative?

    Are you wiser now that someone has anonymously informed you that their local hospital uses a mainframe?

    If I might point out, the parent poster did actually 'inform' us of something, not that the information was relevant, but thats besides the point. However, modding up a post for sharing that a hospital still uses a main frame??? What a waste of perfectly good troll food.
