After having worked at consumer level computer sales I will go ahead and tell you that any company that attempts to do this will fall flat on their face. People just don't care about quality, all they want is the cheapest thing possible. They don't want to hear about how be CAD is going to suck on a $299 desktop, they just want the $299 computer (financed of course LOL). This is why Walmart is so successful, I've never bought anything there that didn't break or didn't just feel cheap. I do care about quality, but you and I are definitely in the minority here.
I've gotten some that have a perforation on the back so you just pull on a tab and the back comes right off so I can take my item. I wish they were all like that because the retailer gets all the benefits of the dumb package and I get none of the pain.
Suprise mandatory overtime, have to pick up your kids? Quit and get them or stay and work.
I had a friend who was asking for a few days off for her wedding months in advance, finally said she could have half a day off the day of the wedding? She had worked there 2 years and was one of the top performers in the call center. Needless to say, she quit.
I love every Paradox developed game I own (HOI, HOI2, HOI2:DD, CK, EU2, and most of all Victoria!). Any you are right, these games can be immensly challenging and are great fun. On a more tactical level, though not new, Panzer General is one of my favorite strategy games of all time.
How about you write a stored procedure to update your "Order" object (or whatever), then put a method in your Order class that calls said stored procedure then you just..
Order.X = X;
Order.Y = Y;
Order.Z = Z;
Order.Update();
And its done. You write one stored procedure and the one method in Order and you can update everywhere easily.
You don't read well do you... He is saying that with a minimalistic government there would be no IP or patents so corporations would have no ammunition against OSS.
I find it humorous that at Krogers (grocery store) you have to scan your own credit card, but they can print your check for you? Why would you spend time making it more convient for me by printing my check, but at the same time make me scan my own card?
Thats bull shit, if the API requires my driver to take an X and return a Y I could do this
public X SomeMethod(Y yVar)
{
System.Crash();
return new X();
}
(Fear my psuedo-psuedocode).
The web server I deal with at work has.NET 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 web apps all running side by side. I even have.NET 2.0 apps in a virtual directory inside a.NET 1.1 app and it all works perfectly. I also have not had a problem with a windows update breaking anything.
Its cheaper and they have more than 100 movies at a time. This makes no sense to me. At least Netflix has a ton of movies and its subscription based so (when they aren't throttling you too badly) you can do well.
Anything Apple does is revered as inovative when everything they do has been done before. Like the 12" powerbook? What the hell, there were notebooks with 12" screens in 1996... who cares?
web/mail server that processes thousands of requests a second? Are you telling me that your computer running Counter Strike is taking a heavier load than, for example, the slashdot server? You are nuts.
You can build a good linux box for $1000, while a comparable power make is over $3000.
If you want value, you could build a value linux box for like $500-$600 where as an imac or emac are about $1000.
When a school is buying severl hundred computes it really starts to add up.
Last I checked there were 0 operating systems other than MS ones that used DirectX, so yes in fact it is very difficult to port to other platforms as you will have to use a completely different API.
If you use glut, then other than writing files (prefs, high score, etc) to the disk there is absolutly nothing to port as all the window creation and sizing calls are handled by glut instead of direct windows or X11 calls etc.
I just got rid of my old ass compaq laptop with a 12" screen (actually it died) and was more than happy to pick up one with a 14.1" screen and this bigger one weighs nearly 2lbs less. I hope I never have to use another notebook with a 12" screen:/

This has to be the most asinine post I've ever seen in my life.

I just never look at spreadsheets so I can't be blamed when the shit hits the fan...

You're kidding me right?
"diluted to the point that being asked out by an unattractive person counts" I so screwed :(
I too am an INTP... but incredibly (as in, like 1 point) of being an INFP. I'm a programmer for what its worth.
Just shows that search engine technology is getting better.

Seems there is a thin line between protecting people and stifiling creativity. Personally I think IP laws go a little too far as it is.

See, I'm a computer geek... I MAKE room for my computers :)
