OpenBSD's Red Hat Compatibility Package Updated
Dan writes "Jason Ish has updated the redhat/base OpenBSD port from Red Hat 6.2 to Red Hat 8.0. The email note is a few days old, but the port seems to have been committed yesterday. So far he has tested with Opera and Netscape. If you run any Linux apps on OpenBSD, you are encouraged to test these commits and provide feedback. (Several people have reported success running Opera 6.12, Opera7 with some tweaks, and Netscape)."
The only problem I've had, using OpenBSD as my desktop, is that RealPlayer for Linux froze whenever it would try to access the network. Strangely enough, this was not a problem as of 3.0, but only came into effect after.
Since RealPlayer and Opera had the same basic problems, I think it's safe to assume RealPlayer should be working once again... I've grabbed the latest port, and I'll be trying it soon. I'll reply to this once I can give first-hand answers.

8.0 - they are getting ahead!
:) Actually the only time I have ever used linux compat was to install a few Loki games, which I don't even have time for now anyway :)
FreeBSD has only got 7.1 ported. We have to do something
Saying your OS is the best because more people use it is like saying MacDonalds make the best food
Wordperfect 8 for Linux didn't work for me with the new port (Realplayer problems were not solved for me either oddly enough..) Can anyone confirm this??
So... Stating, after the fact, that OpenBSD previously did not have a feature, which it now does, is what you would consider "BITCHING"?
In that case, why don't you stop bitching about comments on slashdot, and post some good ones of your own?

I hope you realize that RH is now up to 9.0.
Slow down, cowboy! It has been 4 hours since you last posted. You must wait another few hours.
I am trying this linux emu. with the 3.3-current ELF on an i386 and it works great, in fact I have not seen anything that I have tried from the ports give any trouble. Opera, MagicPoint, acroread so far.
But what does it take to get Java and Javascript to work under Opera? Use a linux emulation Java (doesn't look like it is up to the 8.0 emulation yet in ports) or a native Java? I'm used to Netscape and I have upgraded on another PC so many times I can't recall what I did if anything to get Java working.
Oh and BTW, 24 posts and the next two stories have probably 300 together. I never did like driving in the traffic.
