OpenBSD's Red Hat Compatibility Package Updated

Dan writes "Jason Ish has updated the redhat/base OpenBSD port from Red Hat 6.2 to Red Hat 8.0. The email note is a few days old, but the port seems to have been committed yesterday. So far he has tested with Opera and Netscape. If you run any Linux apps on OpenBSD, you are encouraged to test these commits and provide feedback. (Several people have reported success running Opera 6.12, Opera7 with some tweaks, and Netscape)."

The only problem I've had, using OpenBSD as my desktop, is that RealPlayer for Linux froze whenever it would try to access the network. Strangely enough, this was not a problem as of 3.0, but only came into effect after.

Since RealPlayer and Opera had the same basic problems, I think it's safe to assume RealPlayer should be working once again... I've grabbed the latest port, and I'll be trying it soon. I'll reply to this once I can give first-hand answers.

Yup, compiled the port, and RealPlayer can finally play network streams (again).

Well Mr. Anonymous Troll, I am not "advocating" OpenBSD by any means... I *use* OpenBSD on several of my workstations (including my notebook), as well as numerous servers.

BTW, it's not that I didn't know that, it's just that I have a habbit of capitalizing, and my preferences are sent so I don't see sigs, so I didn't notice.

FreeBSD has only got 7.1 ported. We have to do something :) Actually the only time I have ever used linux compat was to install a few Loki games, which I don't even have time for now anyway :)

Scince a week or two, you can also use Debian instead of Redhat on FreeBSD. This is obviously way cooler than a less outdated version of RH. Take that, Puffy! ;-)
