New Mario Kart Double Dash Footage

StrikerObi writes "Planet GameCube has posted the first ever footage of Mario Kart Double Dash for the GameCube. It was recorded earlier off of the CNN Headline News television network. The game now has 2 characters riding on each kart, with one driving and the other using weapons. There is also some footage of the new F-Zero GX game in the reel." There's also a torrent file available from the fine folks at GameTab.

When I got a GameCube, there were 2 games I had in mind: Metroid Prime and Zelda: Wind Waker. I got Metroid with the system, but I had to wait a few months for Zelda's release. I'm also considering getting Starcraft Ghost when it comes out, (because I'm a Blizzard fan) but I'm as-yet undecided.

When it comes to Mario Kart, I still have a blast with the original SNES game. I got so good at it that nobody was willing to play with me because I always won! I have the standing record on my copy for all 20 courses for time trial (using Yoshi), even though several people have tried to take some of them over the years.

I never really got into the N64 Mario Kart. Then again, I was unimpressed with the N64 as a whole (despite being a life-long Nintendo fan). The only N64 game I really enjoy is Zelda: Ocarina of Time. (of which I'm currently working on the Master Quest for GC)

This game, Mario Kart Double Dash, looks really cool, though. I'm especially looking forward to being able to play with 8 players, something I really wanted in the original. It gives me an excuse to get the broadband adaptor, too. :-) I hope it supports online play, so that if it gets to the point that nobody is willing to play with me at home, I could at least still find opponents online. I wish I could go to E3 to see what they have there on it.

I loved Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64. The only thing I didn't like was not being able to play as Yoshi if I wanted to actually WIN a race, because Bowser, Donkey Kong, and Wario were the fastest.

Now all the cars look really stupid and the screen is cluttered with twice as many characters and more icons than ever.

I don't mind racing as baby mario. But I do mind racing around a track at 60mph in a baby carraige which looks like it would have no traction and a high center of gravity.

Mario Kart's phyiscs felt right. You can't make the physics feel right if the karts are obviously violating proper physics though because they don't tip over when going around corners with such a high center of gravity!

Besides the cars just look stupid. I mean is it really that clever or cool to make Donkey Kong's car look like a barrel? No. That is stupid. As is making Bowser's car this huge ass six wheeled vehicle. And why are the tires on almost all the cars so thin? They don't look right.

This is Mario KART, not Mario ride around in whatever vehicle suits you.

And I don't want Yoshi paired up with that STUPID Birdo character! UGH! Way to ruin Yoshi. Yoshi comes in six colors, why not just pair him up with ANOTHER YOSHI?

I am not looking forward to this. It looks like it's going the same direction as stupid Diddy Kong Racing which was crap.

If I remember correctly, you pair the characters up with whomever you want to. The whole point is you have a driver that has certain characteristics and a weapons character, that has certain characteristics. Remember in the first Mario Kart how the NPC version of Donkey Kong could drop banana peels etc? This is along the same lines.

You mean besides them wanting to watch the video?

      Couple of things to consider:

1.) The WMV8 codec isn't half bad. Maybe not as good as DivX, but it's still very much watchable.

2.) The WM Player may be a little on the 'blech' side, but arguably most players are. Real Media? Yuck. Quicktime? Yuck. DivX Playa? Yuck. Heck, just fire up MS's v6 Media Player. It's a great little player and it still plays WM9 formats if you have the codecs.

I don't see what you're complaining about. I can understand Mac users or Linux users being annoyed, but then again intelligent gamers mainly run Windows anyway.

That's your opinion. The WM Player on the Mac (what I use) is terrible.
Quicktime (for Sorensen stuff) is fine on the Mac, and Video Lan Client and MPlayer are both very good for DivX and pretty much anything else.
WM Player on Mac is still in a beta, hasn't been updated in probably six months, looks terrible, and runs very slowly even for small, low-quality movies.
