Mozilla 1.4 Released
Phil writes "MozillaZine is reporting that Mozilla 1.4 has been released for Windows, Mac OS and Linux. The new version is pretty similar to today's Netscape 7.1, which is based on the same code, but lacks Netscape's proprietary features. More information can be found in the release notes. The release can be downloaded from mozilla.org's releases page or via FTP. From here on, mozilla.org's focus shifts to Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla Thunderbird." The official release news is now up on Mozilla's main page, so let the downloading begin.
... do we get the stories about the other 8500 web browsers that were updated in the past week?
you ruined a perfectly good joke, you fuck-up.
Why not use the original source, Netscape 7.1?
Works much better for me....
Why is it that slashdot has basically taken over beta announcements? Hell, mozilla doesn't even NEED to announce them anymore. Browsing makes strange bed fellows..
They're paying slashdot, with all that open source money they're generating. Cause we all know how the OSS makes the buku bucks.

This doesn't happen with a quality, commerical product like IE or Opera. But what do you expect when college students and unemployed MCSEs try to build a browser.
At the rate they move (as fast as Red Hat, but slower) I would expect it to be in the STABLE around the same time the four horsemen ride by
Or when 4.0 is released, which I think is around the same time...

Theres the fantasy world on little spec whitesheets and RFCs.
And then theres the reality. IE is the only browser that works.
And you can get all righteous about the hows and wherefores and how its a bad thing.
But to any non-technical user who just wants to see the box scores on ESPN, or read the latest headlines, or check his savings account - all that matters is that "this shit dont work".
Fuck standards, make a product that works in real life, not on paper.
Until then open source projects will always be labelled as second rate by the masses.
I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!!!!
Kill that horrible toolkit already. Most users do NOT want to compile from source to get GTK2 support. If you wan't to compete with Konqueror (Apple's helping it now remeber) then you got to get rid of those horrible fonts. I'm just thankful for garnome.
Tyco and Gabe are incredibly homosexual, news at 11 after the sports machine.
In other news, people who want Linux on the XBOX so bad they call Microsoft have all spontaneously combusted, as I got really fucking annoyed, and that tends to happen sometimes (the fire, I mean).
Fuck Beta. Fuck Dice
Both have been purged of ancient Netscape code. Phoenix is alot faster on older hardware.
After Phoenix forked off from Mozilla and became stable and usable, the Mozilla team decided the next 2.0 series will be based on it. Infact the javascript debugger in Mozilla 1.4 is based on Phoenix.
We hear of forks all the time in the OSS world. I have never heard of a merge before which is what is happening now.
