Dear Apple:
I bought an Apple computer because of its native support for teledildonics. I bought a USB FUFME and MacOS immediately recognized it and installed drivers instantly! As a gay Catholic priest who often can't be at the altar all the time, you can understand how the ability to have sex with children whilst on the airplane with my Powerbook and wireless internet service is a lifesaver.
I just have a single question, will Apple be releasing a firewire version of the FUFME anytime soon?
With much gayness,
Father Michael "Arminass" Sims
Dear Father Sims
Thank you for your kind letter! Being a former Catholic priest myself, I know exactly what you are talking about! It has been our dream at Apple Computers ever since we began in the 80's to shape the homosexual experience with the ultimate computer.
I can answer your letter by saying that YES we will indeed be making a firewire version of the FUFME. With the additional bandwidth offered by the firewire bus, we will be able to more accurately record and deliver more minute and subtle movements that the USB FUFME simply couldnt support due to lack of bandwidth. You will be able to recognize our firewire FUFME in stores by the fancy holographic logo of a cock entering an Apple.
We are glad to help loyal customers such as yourself. If you ever have any more questions, feel free to drop a line (or connect to my teledildonic FUFME server on fufme://cockman.apple.com).

You can already play the songs on your iPod right in iTunes. Just turn auto-syncing off.

or is there not enough mac news today that we're posting simple software updates?
I mean, I can understand a major MacOS, or Yellow Dog Linux update, but MS Office v.X updates? Along with iPod Firmware updates?
If there's no good mac news, why post anything?

I don't want to start a holy war here, but what is the deal with you Mac fanatics? I've been sitting here at my freelance gig in front of a Mac (a 8600/300 w/64 Megs of RAM) for about 20 minutes now while it attempts to copy a 17 Meg mp3 from one folder on the hard drive to an ipod. 20 minutes. At home, on my Pentium Pro 200 running NT 4, which by all standards should be a lot slower than this Mac, the same operation would take about 2 minutes. If that.
In addition, during this file transfer, Netscape will not work. And everything else has ground to a halt. Even BBEdit Lite is straining to keep up as I type this.
I won't bore you with the laundry list of other problems that I've encountered while working on various Macs, but suffice it to say there have been many, not the least of which is I've never seen a Mac that has run faster than its Wintel counterpart, despite the Macs' faster chip architecture. My 486/66 with 8 megs of ram runs faster than this 300 mhz machine at times. From a productivity standpoint, I don't get how people can claim that the Macintosh is a superior machine.
Mac addicts, flame me if you'd like, but I'd rather hear some intelligent reasons why anyone would choose to use a Mac over other faster, cheaper, more stable systems.
Actually it seems that the new Exchange support for Entourage is pretty weak. Seems LDAP, IMAP et al needs to be turned on on the exchange server for it to work. This was a work around for previous incarnations of Entourage, so it's a pretty lame update.
I'm sure more folks will be able to articulate this better in further posts.
I for one, am totally disheartened by it.
just a heads up.

I don't want to start a holy war here, but what is the deal with you cat fanatics? I've been sitting here on my sofa in front of a cat (a sealpoint siamese) for about 20 minutes now while attempting to get it's attention away from a bug on the floor. 20 minutes. At home, with my labrador cross, which by all standards should be a lot dumber than this cat, the same operation would take about 2 minutes. If that.
In addition, during this attention seeking attempt, my children's attention is also held by the cat. And everything else has ground to a halt. Even trying to get the remote from my partner fails.
I won't bore you with the laundry list of other problems that I've encountered while dealing with other cats, but suffice it to say there have been many, not the least of which is I've never seen a cat that fetches as much as it's canine counterpart, despite the cat's faster ambulatory system. My terrier with one ingrown toenail runs consistently faster than this siamese at times, as the cat is often completely asleep. From a productivity standpoint, I don't get how people can claim that the cat is a superior animal.
Cat addicts, flame me if you'd like, but I'd rather hear some intelligent reasons why anyone would choose to use a cat over other faster, cheaper, more affectionate animals.
but when will we have pst import and pocket pc synch?

...long overdue, and not as full-featured as its Windows counterpart. In fact, it's pretty half-assed.
.PST files. Just sets up an IMAP account for mail and LDAP for the Exchange address list, which is USELESS if you have an IT Deprtment full of Mac-hating tightasses who won't turn on IMAP or anything other than the bare minimum services that Windows PCs need to use Outlook. I think it even needs SMTP turned on to send mail out.
Slow as dirt. No evident support for
We waited a year for THIS???
*This was posted to MacSlash earlier today, but the anti-Windows vitriol contained within certainly belongs on here.
Man, pudge, you're killing me smalls. Do us a favor and don't use the headline "Mega Monday Updates" when we are waiting impatiently for the long overdue Powerbook updates. I nearly spilled my soda on my keyboard as I frantically rushed to load apple.com after seeing this headline in my Slashbox.

The Exchange connector, frankly, sucks. You made us wait a year for stinkin' IMAP and LDAP connectivity? SMTP required to send mail? Come on! I service many clients whose internal IT departments would laugh me out of their offices if I requested they turn on SMTP and IMAP on their Exchange server. The Exchange component of Entourage needs to work *exactly* like the Windows version of Outlook, or at least as well as Outlook 2001 for OS 9.x did.
Are you kidding? Your box has PCI slots, right? just put an Adaptec FierWire card in there and you're all set (with a modern Mac OS, classic or X). As for playing MP3s, you've got the CPU power to decode at LEAST 15 MP3 streams at once! My 25MHz 68040 Quadra can play an MP3 (though the software player for it has long passed into oblivion), I'm sure your 300MHz machine can.
Most likely your system is in horrible shape, try formatting it and loading Mac OS 9.2.2 from scratch. Drop some more RAM in it (CHEAP!). Turn virtual memory off in the Memory control panel, and boost the disk cache to 16MB. Upgrade to the latest QuickTime Pro and enjoy your nice system!

The software I used on the Quadra was some hacked-together thing that was really a one-off deal. I think it was designed for the sole purpose of proving that an '040 mac could play an MP3. I remember the mouse not really getting more than 2 frames/second when it was playing. I had it briefly but lost track of it. Rumors on the linux-m68k lists also hint that someone wrote one in assembler for the amiga, but it too was only a proof-of-concept.
The '040 was great in it's day though, quite a wonderful series of systems to work with. My 660av is still kicking, I take it out every now-and-then when Debian or NetBSD has a major update. It runs well with Mac OS 8.1 and Photoshop 3.0, which is a wonderful app for simple graphics editing. It also plays SimCity 2000, A10 Attack!, and A-Train as well as it ever has.
I'm thinking of trying to get Gentoo bootstrapped on the thing to see what kind of speed I can get out of it when I compile the whole system for the '040, I bet it'll be cute.

The parent is a cut-and-paste troll.
Well, Microsoft really messed up BIG TIME.
Instead of delivering a true replacement to Outlook 2001 for Mac OS X all we got was the same old thing refined.
Just how many Exchange IT people are going to enable SMTP, IMAP and Webmail for Mac users? Why didn't MS make Entourage a true MAPI client like they promised back in February?
Looks like some of us are still stuck with Outlook 2001 running Classic...
Mabe we can convince XIMIAN to port Evolution over to Mac OS X and Quartz.....
Installed the update... Word would no longer run... I'm running OS X 10.2.6... All other Office apps were OK... Reinstalling Word did not help... consistently received message "Microsoft Word Unexpectedly Quit"... Tried lots of stuff including deleting Office with Microsoft's Remove Office utility and reinstalling without success... finally removed all Microsoft Office references on my machine and reinstalled Office and 10.1.2 update which restored Word.... A major pain... If you really don't need the 10.1.4 upgrade, you might consider not installing it...
