Valve's Counter-Strike - Condition Zero Exposed

Thanks to 1UP for their CGW-sourced interview with Counter-Strike: Condition Zero's newest developers, as Mike Booth of Turtle Rock Studios is quizzed about their work since they "took over development of CZ around the end of July." The recently-completed game, which Valve have used a multitude of developers on, has now added the Official Counter-Strike Bot, and bot teams "actually speak to each other using a new voice chatter system equipped with hundreds of lines of dialogue", and even think they're sitting at their own PC: "...when a bot does react to a stimulus, it must actually move a simulated mouse and with an appropriate amount of aiming error."

Does this mean it has to leave when its mom says to go to bed? Because that would definitely make me think I have the real CS experience.

Will the bots speak in English, or 'l33t-sp33k'? And I don't think hundreds of lines of dialogue really count if half of those lines is the same sentence said over and over just by different people.

The whole appeal of CS was that it's an online game. Adding bots to it seems to negate the purpose. If they don't add a filtering option to ignore servers with bots, they're shooting themselves in the foot.

Actually, nevermind - I stopped caring about Counterstrike after playing the 0.6 release to death.

if bots in UT(2003) aimd perfectly, you wouldn't have a chance in InstaGib, but actually I can beat them at Inhuman, and they don't get much higher accuracy then I do.

followed by me being kick/banned from my own single player game.

People actually die while playing Counter-Strike. In wacky foreign lands it's not totally uncommon for enamored teenagers to starve to death in front of their copies of CS. Now that's a game with some serious mass appeal.

Definitely the good form of mass appeal.

South Korean dies in marathon game session

A 24-year-old South Korean man dies after 86 hours of straight gaming[counterstrike] without food or sleep.

According to an Associated Press report, South Korean police said today that a man has died after an 86-hour gaming marathon. The incident occurred at an Internet cafe in a town 160 miles southwest of Seoul, where the man, who was unemployed, had been "virtually glued" to a computer since Friday, skipping sleep and meals. The man collapsed near the cafe's counter and was later found dead in the restroom. Many Internet cafes in South Korea are open 24 hours a day.
