Classic Gamer PDF Magazine Hits Second Issue

Skyler writes "The second issue of the recently revived, formerly paper-only Classic Gamer Magazine is now online as a freely downloadable PDF. The cover story for this issue discusses the history of James Bond videogames, but that's just the beginning, as this issue is chock full of gaming articles, reviews, classic ads, and much more." We previously covered Classic Gamer's debut PDF issue - the UK print magazine Retro Gamer is also worth seeking out if you enjoy this type of rampant gaming nostalgia.

It was 30 lives, or REST as Contra put it.

Back in my prime video game days, I used to able to beat Contra without dying once. If I died, it was always in one of the same two or three places. I wish I had the time to play games to death like I used to do back when I was younger.

      Gradius still rocks.

I attempted for about the 40th time to get through Gradius 4. Darned if I can get through what I think is the final level. Thing is, you can only use that code once per level, although they stack.. .so if you use it on the first level and then die on the 4th, you have 3 left to use...

By the time I got to the end of the game, I must have been on a one to one level. Even continuing, you can't re-use the code....

I'm still waiting for Gradius 5 to come out. Looks beautiful, and hopefully the music is more on par with Gradius Gaiden.

I could do Contra without 30 lives, utilizing the continues. Life Force on the other hand - doubtful. But I could beat Life Force without using a whole 30 lives. I can't remember the exact details though. I remember that I got REALLY close to beating Life Force without the cheat code. I think I died at the salamander at the end - or very close to him.

Several years later, I tried it again, and I was really rusty at those games. They are still some of my all-time favorites though. Konami was one of the best back then. Nowadays, some of their games are still good, but back then - nearly all of their games were good.

Life Force is one of my all-time favorite shooters. I still need to get a copy of the PC Engine version, so I can play it on my Turbo Express or TG16.

Good riddance...I never liked PDF's anyway. Although I like the idea of a digital magazine, why not just have a website updated monthly, rather than a giant, memory-hungry, cpu-eating, pdf file? To reiterate; I hate PDFs. I HATE 'em.

PDAs are becoming more and more suited to this type of work. Sony has Palms now that run at 320 by 480. Sure beats the 240 by 320 I'm running on my PocketPC. Death to paper!

In some instances, the unique organizations of hydrocarbon molecules is still preferred to the unique organization of sub-atomic particles. Though one can easily convert the information represented by those sub-atomic particles into an imperfect fascimile by outputting it onto hydrocarbon planes with the assistance of a jet or laser device.

I would argue that Silas was the very first game designer well known by name, and his passing is sadly noted by all of us whose introduction to gaming was CW and Zork.
