Doom 3 Web Site Now Operational
thrash242 writes "After much re-re-re-rechecking, the official Doom 3 site finally has some real content, instead of just 'Coming soon' - it also confirms the August 3rd ship date. Woohoo!"

Just a new flash demo
Damn - I wanted to see monster guides, mapedit tutes, system specs, etc...
Oh, well - I'm happy to wait for this game, should be really good.
You can't expect to wield supreme executive power, just because some watery tart threw a sword at you
I went through the whole thing last night and they did a great job on it! The site is really creepy, setting the mood by going full screen flash mode. The music and the information listed there is all quite well put together and interesting. Did 2design do that site? Felt like his work, IMHO.

I hate to be the one to mention it (OK, no I don't), but still no mention of when it'll be available for Mac? Or, more importantly, what the system requirements for Macs might be? Ah well, I guess I shouldn't complain, they don't mention Linux anywhere either but we know it'll be available right away for Linux, so it'll probably be available right away for Mac too. Ha.
Can't wait for this game.
Looks like doom 3 will make a shit load by releasing it before hl2.
what i want to know is if hl2 can release it on the same date..? highly unlikely.
Athlon 1200
... it'll probably play doom3 ok on lesser graphic detail, and it'll be the first time i booted into windows in 3 years.
512MB RAM
ATI 9800 / 128MB
works great for everything else though
Ahhh for the ones who don't know their history. This is the same story as the original Doom, which predates Half Life by a number of years. You were probably not one of the individuals playing Doom of a low end 486 in the dark and jumping out of your skin when something came around the corner. Personally, I have been awaiting this title patiently for quite sometime. No game since has scared me out of whits like the original Doom did. Here's to hoping Caramack and company did the same thing with this one.
I remember setting up a 14.4k modem duel back in the day when online fps was mano a mano ('92-'93??). I'll never forget how cool it was getting the connection to finally take and there we were, two guys on the opposite side of town hunting each other down in the hallowed halls of Doom. It blew my dad's mind - he had no idea such a thing was possible with his computer... That game will always have a special place in this geek's heart... Bring on Doom III!
Not only does God definitely play dice, but He sometimes confuses us by throwing them where they can't be seen. -Hawking
Quake 3 had a multi-processor mode that could be enabled on the command line. Will Doom 3 have that?
When are we finally gonna get games that can take advantage of my dual-Xeon workstation?
Anyone who loves or hates any language, platform, or manufacturer, doesn't know what they're talking about.
Um, Sorry. Anyway anyone trying to run Doom 3 on a GF 4 MX is going to be pretty unhappy with the results. Of course that doesn't keep the idiots from PC Gamer stating that "So long as you have a GeForce 4MX card, you should be able to play Doom 3 with many of its bells and whistles at a decent clip." Sure, and there are WMD in Iraq...
I can't wait till Doom 3 goes retail and the Id forums are overloaded with users running 2.0GHz Celerons with Geforce 4mx's asking why they can't run it at anything other then 640x480 with everything turned off or set to low.
If you wanna get rich, you know that payback is a bitch
The official website should be a showcase for the game, getting us revved up and excited for its release, giving us the lowdown on everything that anyone would wan't to know.
A potential example of that - Bungie Studios' site.
Love them or loathe them, Bungie seem pretty good at that PR thing. Id communicate through occasional updates on their finger service, Valve through emails and posts on other people's forums, and leave their own sites as unsullied, unused shop windows with a few smatterings of out-of-date news and screenshots.
Tedious Bloggy Stuff - hooray?
I guess the old pre-release shareware version isn't around anymore. Definatly getting the game, but I feel somewhat let down there isn't a shareware version released like the original.

Has id software ever failed you?
Yes it will be out after the Windows version. The gaming market is ruled by Windows. But it will sure come.
It didn't take so long for the linux clients of Q1, Q2, Q3, RtCW, RtCW:ET to come out after the windows releases and they were surely released, and so will Doom3. Not only that, but the Q1 and Q2 complete source code was also released under the GPL.
Would you rather they completely ignore the other systems, like most game companies?
It's very good that there's a pretty huge player in the 3D gaming world that actually states that the linux/mac versions are planned and not just "if we will feel like it, we'll see if we can hack up some linux version".
^_^
If it wasn't a Doom game that I've been extremely excited about for over a year to get my hands on, I'd wait to play the demo.
Instead, I'm going to get to Electronics Boutique (where I have it preordered) bright and early so I can get it ASAP and giggle like a insane schoolgirl the whole way home, anticipating the demon-killing awesomeness that I will soon experience.
So, I guess, hardcore Doom fans buy *this* game without playing the demo. I haven't been disappointed by an id game yet, after all.
