Hardwyred writes "Another webpage for the DIY minded has popped up, Hack A Day promises '...a fresh hack each day, every day from around the web and a special how-to hack each week.' Just a few days worth of content up so far, but shows a lot of promise."

      Nope. Their hosting provider has a 212 area code. New York is hardly civilized. Also, it's in DMCA jurisdiction. (Though jurisdiction didn't seem to be an issue for the FBI and Indymedia.)

    They have good ideas, but is there any way to submit an idea for other people to do, if you're not so mechanically oriented? (I soldered my screwdriver to a case once) It looks like you have to do everything yourself for any submissions =/

      You sound like me. The left speaker in my headphones was cutting in and out. Simple I thought, pull it apart, re-solder, put together and no need to buy new headphones. Well, I did get the left side working, and the right side kept working, but now my mic doesn't work. Soldering four wires took me almost 30 mins.

    I gotta make myself one of those bottle cap tri-pods. I am glad they warned me about the potential for poisoning I might have actually made it before drinking the pop and refilling it with water.

      Yep, very clever idea, although probably stolen from a photo mag column. It would be silly to leave the coke. Refill with water, or better yet, sand.

      They did make a note in humor but I think it should be emphised: use stainless!

    At least it isn't all caps. All lower case is still relatively easy to read, but I do agree it is easier to handle proper grammar. It tells the reader what the proper nouns are and it gives an added visual cue that a sentence might start here.

      HAHAHHAA that's a hilarious joke! You see, when Slashdot links to a site, it receives allot of traffic and runs a risk of being overloaded. This clever poster is poking fun at that. GENUIS I SAY!

    Let's see... hackaday simply links to other peoples' sites, especially engadget.com. Phillip Torrone also runs flashenabled.com, which lists pretty much the same items also by referencing engadget.com. And now Slashdot routinely shills for engadget and engadget's own shills-within-shills. As though there aren't enough bloggers out there already regurgitating n-th hand news of dubious utility.

      that's kinda the point, put all "hacks" in one spot--i get about 200 emails a week asking where all these types of sites are. think of it as an archive.org for hardware hacks.

    It's interesting, however I couldn't help but notice that all links were external, so it seems more of a collection of previous ones, without new ones.

    While making a new one a day would be challanging, some unique ones would make the site stand out from the ones it links to.

    If he doesn't realize that thing will get you a pocketfull of hot acid, he needs to review what a good hack is.

    I saw the thing about lava lamps - I made one of my own a while back (as a biotech student, I have ready access to quantities of polyethylene glycol), but there's no way I would subject a USB port to that kind of power load...

    It's probably a website run by a bunch of fucking twelve-year-old script kiddies. What makes you think they'd bother with proper grammar and spelling?

    This guy has kids and writes rather well compared to most other homebrew websites. Don't know what's up with the all lower case letters thing.

    Sigh... I have not been to America for quite some time, and reading all those crazy **AA articles made me wonder just how much USA has changed. Well, I didn't expect it to change THAT much though!

    While this is a cool site, it's not like they are writing these articles. It'a a nicely themed blog, but if you ask me proper blogging etiquette would demand more visible recognition of the sites featuring the actual content.

    Just my 2 cents, anyway.

    You know these navigation systems that come in most newer/expensive cars that have a little gps system and map and talks to you (turn left....here).
    I'd love to hack one of those and add "bitch" to everything. as in...

    "Merge onto...freeway....bitch"
