The Revolution is Coming Mid-2006?
GameIndustry.biz is reporting that the Nintendo Revolution is slated to arrive in Mid-2006. The information comes from a key supplier. From the article: "This is the first solid evidence that the Revolution platform is still on track for a mid-2006 launch. The console is expected to debut at a pre-E3 conference next Tuesday, but it's still not known just how much will be on display - with sources close to Nintendo suggesting that only a pre-recorded video of "next-gen footage" may be shown."
I am the biggest nintendo fanboy that there is, but they consitantly pull this kind of shit. Before it was ultra 64 it was called Project Reality and it promised graphics similar to what gamecube has now. It then became Ultra 64 and was delayed and only footage was shown(example being Final Fantasy 64) and then eventually they released Nintendo 64. I really hope the big N doesnt do this again. Whenever I hear that stuff wont be playable I cant help but smell delay.

I was to understand that the revolution wouldn't be televised, so how the heck can you see the game you're playing???

Granted that I didn't read the article but it seems like slashdot and the Internet in general is full of these rumors. If I see an announcement about the release or specs for the PS3 today, I'm leaving.
1) the day Nintendo matches the schedule of their hardware supplier for a release date will be a cold day in hell. Not to say that this isn't necessarily true, but this estimate has to be based on the timeframe Nintendo has issued for the RAM. Who's to say that such a date isn't only for Japan, or only for the USA, or perhaps an extra-early due date for MoSys to make sure they get their goods ready in time for the REAL Revolution release date? not the best timeframe to rely on.
2) recent reports have pointed at an "earlier" release date for the PS3 as well; is this to say that XBox 360 is actually forcing the hands of Sony and Nintendo? years ago, nobody would've ever predicted that, but perhaps people are finally beginning to fear MS's momentum in the console industry. now THAT is the point of this article. very interesting and exciting to see MS keeping everyone on their toes.
Nintendo probably is just recognizing the reality of the situation; that is, because of their smaller market share outside of Japan, their impact in the media covering E3 will be much smaller than either the PS3 or XBox360. What they're possibly trying to do by showing "in game" footage is to stop rumors on poor graphical performance (and possibly demonstrate a more "friendly" potential launch line-up).
Let's face it, being that Half-Life 2 was beautiful on pretty average hardware (that is on medium settings it still kicked ass) all three upcomming consoles will have impressive graphics.
Now Nintendo may have realized that launching a system with Super Monkey Ball and Rogue Leader to apeal to the masses may not have been such a great idea. I personally suspect that Nintendo's movies will demonstrate a new Super Mario game, and a handful of "mature" games that will all "launch with the system".
It would be nice if they were playable, but the main question is "Does it matter how a game plays 12-18 months before it is released?".
Anyone who thinks big N or even Sony for that matter would release a major system before the holiday shopping season is a fool. It'll be 4Q 2006 at earliest.
First of all, I'm wondering what X-Box 360 specs you were looking at. Secondly, we don't really have concrete, announced specs on any of the three consoles, so your argument has no real base. Third, do you honestly think that the most powerful console of this generation isn't going to have a loyal following at least as large as the current one? Do you not think that the thirst the PC gamer has for console games catered to their taste is going to last for a second console?
I may not like the X-Box myself, but I recognize that PC gamers like their X-Box games here in America, and that the X-Box caters to a very large niche. I don't think Microsoft is going to be dumb enough to sacrifice any sort of power, or risk the image they have worked so hard to garner. You're living in a dream world, and as sad as I am to say it, I'm truly afraid that Nintendo can either do incredibly well, or incredibly bad with their new "innovation". People know the difference between a gimmick and a truly revolutionary enhancement. And, Nintendo is very capable of both. I just hope they don't put all their betting money on a gimmicky horse that looks strong in the stables.
You know whats funnier? "Informed" AC's.
Xbox is my favorite current generation console for playing Nintendo games on. It handles NES, SNES, GB, GBA and N64 games much better than the PS2 or Gamecube.

According to the site, the console will boast four 2.5Ghz IBM G5 Custom cores, with 128KB of level 1 cache and a 512KB shared level 2 cache, while the graphics will be powered by a dual core ATI RN520 chipset, with 16MB of on-board eDRAM for the frame buffer.
10 GHZ? IIRC, that beats out XBOX 360.
