Yes, Resident Evil 4 is a crappy kids game:

it's not enough to call Resident Evil 4 one of the high points of the series, because this is probably the single greatest horror-themed action game ever created. Resident Evil 4 is an amazing achievement in a variety of ways, especially in how its inspired, state-of-the-art cinematic presentation works so well with its relentlessly exciting, white-knuckle action, all of which is wrapped up in a decidedly lengthy adventure chock-full of hidden secrets and bonus extras. It obviously isn't for the squeamish or for those otherwise not qualified to play this gory, mature-rated GameCube game, which is too bad for them, because it's hard to imagine anyone else not being consistently thrilled and impressed by what Resident Evil 4 has to offer. Nintendo already had the store space in NYC; if I'm not mistaken, this store was the old Pokémon Center.

The store's location doesn't have anything to do with regional sales, though. The store isn't in NYC because people there don't buy enough Nintendo products. If the Gamecube was unpopular in the city, then why waste the effort to open a store that's dedicated in large part to it?

And GT4 will never be on the Gamecube. Ever. Sony owns and publishes the series, so it's going to be a cold day in hell before a Grand Turismo game jumps to the Cube.

Back in 1992 I said the same thing about Sonic The Hedgehog never making an appearance on a Nintendo console.

Of course, Sega has been traditionally worse managed by Sony. But you never know. With all 3 consoles converging in the same technologies (Power Processors, PC-grade graphics cards) and with the rising cost of making a game, I believe that a common gaming development platform is not a crazy idea.

Normal rules don't apply in Manhattan.

A new building was recently put up on the south-west corner of Central Park (the Time-Warner building). The top floors are residential, and the top two floors sold for a combined 44 million dollars (making it the most expensive Manhattan real estate purchase ever). A STUDIO apartment in the building sold for over 1 million dollars.

The mid-section is all commercial space, and the bottom 3 floors are for stores. Samsung has a massive "showcase" on the third floor that's open 5 days a week. I went in there one day and it was really cool. They had cell-phones and laptops that were Asian-market only, and they had some massive LCD TV's.

Know what they sell there? Nothing. All you can do is walk in and look around. There's a ton of salespeople, but they don't actually sell anything. You can ask lots of questions, but can't buy a thing.

Their intention was to raise awareness of their brand and, while I'm not sure how they're measuring it, I'm sure they can justify the massive cost of the lease (probably around 40k per month). Nintendo can do the same thing. If they sell a few Game Cubes while they're at it, so much the better.

It's pretty cool. There are TONS of stations set up to play Gamecube, DS, and SP games. There's an area set up on the first floor with a round table and a bunch of DS's so people can easily play wirelessly with eachother. There are also SPs and DSes hooked up to monitors to play (the DSes have two). Then there are there uber surround sound chairs with large screens for Gamecubes, as well as E3-boot like Gamecubes hooked up to LCD screens.

Lots of Pokemon stuff of course, and a large accessory section.

The Nintendo museum thing is all right, but it's not very big. It's itneresting to look back at old NES hardware, though, especially the Japanese-only accessories like the keyboard.

It's worth stopping in if you're in the area, but it's not worth planning some big road trip to go see.
