LUGRadio Live This Summer

News for Nerds.
It seems to me that more often than news, slashdot's thing is adverts for nerds.
Not saying it's a bad thing, there's a big grey area between news and adverts in this sort of thing, and hey, I'm here every day reading the stuff.
I'm saying this mainly because I'd never heard of LUG radio before. Now I'm interested.
Damn it "News for Nerds, Ads that bloody well work".
PS Sorry if this comes off as a bit trollish. Its just there's a fine line between news and well targetted advertising.

Sounds like a great event.
I think you're being a little pessimistic regarding people's view of Linux fans. I believe LugRadio presents a view of FOSS that is rarely seen: i.e. normal people enjoying something they passionately believe in. It's blind zealotry that gives Linux a bad name, not having a laugh.

It's pretty impressive that this thing has come together at all considering it has no corporate sponsorship and is being done for the fun of the event.

I enjoy LUGRadio but with the great of respect those guys can hardly claim not to be "blind zealots". I've lost count of the number of times they've recommended Ubuntu with no reasoning; and that Distro Wars is just lame. It might be an interesting segment if the opinions were given by people who could actually say something insightful on the subject but it comes off as rather pathetic zealotry. I might agree with them, but they're not
the unbiased consumers they or you seem to think they are.
On this subject, I was quite offended at the last episode I heard where they attempted to conflate the Free Software movement (as opposed to the Open Source movement) with the people Laura Didio claimed where harrassing here. Never mind that Didio may not even be telling the truth in regards to this, lord knows everything else she says has a price, it didn't stop a rabid tirade of abuse against the Free Software movement. Oh and Slashdot got a bad rap too. Can someone please tell that guy that the people who post on Slashdot are many and have a broad range of opinions. (I'm genuinely astonished that it ever needs to be stated that Slashdot has more than two users; do any other message boards have this problem?)
It's a good and enjoyable show, but turn down the fan-boy talk. The show works best when it's used as a forum for developers who can offer something insightful. Endless quarrels regarding Linux distributions and childish interjections about Python not being a proper programming language (??) only spoil its credibililty.

Can someone mod this troll down? We aren't paid for the show, we do it because we enjoy it and because the FOSS communities need a variety of media to be healthy. The Linux Link Tech Show is certainly worth a listen, though.

It's pronounced "Lug rah-dee-o". Brilliant show. Oh, and it's not profanity, it's "language".
i've been using Linux for about 10 years now. when i first started using it it was still an underground underdog scrapping to get a little attention. well 10 years later it has all the attention it needs but much of it the likes of cnet.com.com.com.com.com. so the majority of attention it gets these days is geared towared the business sect. so it's quite nice to hear people chatting up linux on multiple levels AND hear a bit of the old attitude creeping back into it. i'm sorry but watered-down, business-suit linux is nothing more than microsoft without the unpredictable software. i say more of this. i say Linux TV. i say let's bring back the days when linux.com was a real strong dream and a place where linux users could go and get help. don't get me wrong - i love the fact that big businesses are supporting linux. but that big money doesn't mean linux has to shed it's underdog attitude where you couldn't see a linux ad without the words "world domination" somewhere in the ad. i think the linux community should approach G4 TV and tell them they need to start a Linux TV show. hell, i'm an actor, maybe i'll pitch them the idea.

I downloaded the LUGRadio show where they interviewed Miguel de Icaza. I was less than impressed by the insight of the LUG guys. They seemed to think that any project which might rely on Mono or .NET could just as easily be done in Python!
As pointed out, wrong show. LUGRadio is fantastic. I know they don't get paid for this, but I am sure it costs them some money.
There are a lot of great Linux and FOSS radio/podcast shows out there. So if LUGRadio is not your bag, try LQRadio, The Linux Box Show, LinuxLog, TLLTS, or keep on searching. Don't forget DDP Hack Radio and Hackermedia! More are popping up every month. Each one is created with a little love inside.
eh what? They never suggested that the whole of KDE should be written in Python or C#.
I'll also think you'll find that all 4 presenters have contributed a significant amount into the Linux community before LUGRadio ever existed.

OK - for the record there was:
1. A suggestion that KDE had become overbloated and that maybe a lighter version was needed. The suggestion of a rewrite was shot down in flames on the show, and no mention was made of the language in which to do said rewrite.
2. The suggestion about using Python in the core of a DE was a sarcastic remark in a conversation about GNOME looking to support development in high-level languages.
Jono Bacon has been around in Linux-related media for ages; most Linux magazines have had work by him, and he has most recently released Linux Desktop Hacks which he co-edited with Nicholas Petreley - but you've probably never heard of him either.
Stuart Langridge (aka Aq) has been around the web development scene for a while; he wrote DHTML Utopia

I gave this a listen and found it to be quite good, although I think they think some of their humor (actually humour) is funnier than it really is. Anyhow, anyone know of any other good technology related podcasts?
look, it's funny as hell. if you take it too seriously, it's your fault.
having said that, i did email them about the Didio thing, and they weren't specificly saying that people shouldn't complain, but that people should not make personal atacks on them anyway, not that she didn't deserve it.
it wasn't even against slashdot, they just worded it wrong. it was even my first episode, so i'm not just a fanboy.
honestly, i don't think they give a fuck about being unbiased, it's just a hobby and don't think that some things are worth arguing.
it's funny, sometimes informative and insightful, and it's free. what ever helps the community, right?
