iPod Gets The Royal Nod

frostilicus2 writes "Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England seems to have taken quite an interest in technology recently. She's now getting hip and funky with an Apple iPod." From the article: "If the thought of the Queen trolling through Apple's online jukebox, iTunes looking for 'hits' is a little too much for the frontal lobes, the Sun assures its readers that, like most things, she probably has a footman to do it for her."

Maybe Apple can now put the Royal Coat of Arms on their UK iPods, just like HP Sauce and Branston Pickle.

  5. Incredible to imagine it, because of her age? by haggar · · Score: 2, Interesting

I guess the reason it's so hard to imagine Queen Elisabeth II browsing iTunes is her age. Because our civilization has this prejudice that old folks don't do youthy stuff.
I had a relative, 15 or 20 years ago (he is now deceased) who was an octagenarian (80+ years) and was enthusiastically programming on his ZX Spectrum
He developed a rather sophisticated geodesy program (he was a retired geodesist), which he even sold to a handful of companies. All this didn't look strange to me, as I was still a kid, void of preconceptions. It is only now, that I am grown up, that I see how extraordinary this was. It's the mentality of today's world that makes it sound so incredible. It's also the reason why many of us will have problems finding a job at 50+, in software or hardware development.

If I remember rightly, the last time she wanted to listen to Queen she invited them round and got the guitarist guy to stand on the roof of Buckingham Palace and play God save the Queen.

    Stylish or what ?

If he became a British citizen at some point, he could convert it to a "real" knighthood. It's not common, but it does happen--a good example is the violinist Yehudi Menuhin.

...she had the band of the Coldstream Guards playing a medley of show tunes and oldies.
There was something very surreal about sitting in Buckingham Palace in the presence of Her Majesty while a gaggle of beefy soldiers in red and gold uniforms play 'Let me take you by the hand and show you the streets of London' on brass instruments.

We laugh at Daikatana because it took approximately 400 years to develop, and was hyped the entire time as "It's gonna be the best game ever! So good it'll redefine the whole concept of what a 'game' is!"
And then, of course, it just turned out to be an utter load of pants.

The Reality Distorition Field thing, I have slightly less of a firm grasp on, but it seems to be related to the fact that any time Jobs is involved in.. well.. anything, really.. all logic, reason, and common sense shoot straight out of the window, and are replaced by blue-sky idealism, promises, wild claims, and hype - and yet, even normally rational people seem to swallow it down. Presumably due to some alternate-universe effect that surrounds him, hence the Reality Distortion Field. (someone correct me if wrong)

And as for Milkshake, I believe that's a slang term for, loosely speaking, what one woman has that others don't. Her "unique selling point", if you will - maybe large breasts, or nice skin, or great booty-shaking skills. It's whatever aspect of her "Brings all the boys to the yard", as the song says.
