It amazes me how dupes appear on Slashdot like this. I mean how can this happen?
Please don't make me start reading all my tech/nerd news from digg.com instead.
In its time Mac IE5 was one of the best browsers available on any platform. With the Tasman rendering engine, it had much better Web Standards support than its Windows counterpart, and its drag and drop customizable
toolbar paved the way for similar functionality now found in Firefox and
Safari etc.
So IE5 Mac did not suck, then. It sucks now, perhaps.
It's nowhere near as simple as that. You can recreate the moon illusion by doing the following:
1) Stare at the dot in the circle found on this page for around 30 seconds.
2) Stare up at the ceiling, you should see a yellow after-image appear. Note its size.
3) Now look horizontally at a nearby wall. Notice how bigger the circle looks? That's the moon illusion taking effect without a horizon in sight.
For a detailed explanation of the Moon Illusion, visit this page at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. According to that site, it's due to Oculomotor Micropsia, which is to do with the way the eye focuses on objects in the distance
... in fact it's one of TPM's few redeeming features.
A dusty EVA pod from 2001: A Space Odyssey can be seen in amongst the junk in Watto's junkyard. Must have been the one that cut Frank Poole's air supply, eventually ending up in a galaxy far, far away.
They also could have used the electromagnetic field generated by overhead electricity cables to light up their flourescent tubes - Electromagnetic Emission Art.
People always seem to use the CD-R burning argument in Apple's defence. If you take these steps, you've got a library full of paid-for music that's been compressed twice. Yuk.
If you buy music from iTunes, none of your music is of archival quality. For that, you need to store your music as AIFF of FLAC files.
In an ideal world, where everyone has lots of bandwidth and storage, people would buy their music online in FLAC format, which they can do whatever they like with: burn to CD, convert to MP3 etc.
Sadly, that's not the direction we're going in.
A little off topic this, but I just *have* to recommend this programme broadcast on Radio 4 last Monday.
(RealPlayer file ->) First Impressions explores what what would happen if SETI detected a definite signal indicating extra-terrestrial intelligence. Contains interviews from SETI scientists mixed with lots of great 'out there' sound effects. This is Radio 4 at its best.
Surely listeners abroad can hear the new series at the same time as everyone else simply by pressing the 'Listen Live' button on the Radio 4 website at 17:30GMT (18:30BST) every Tuesday for the duration of the series.

Maybe Apple can now put the Royal Coat of Arms on their UK iPods, just like HP Sauce and Branston Pickle.

Wasn't it Buzz Lightyear that said that?
Or fictional top secret Russian military aircraft.
I think this is part of a conspiracy by George Lucas to make the acting and dialogue in Episode III seem a whole lot better.
Everyone on Earth who saw the original Star Wars is compelled by some unknown force to watch these god-awful movies.
You must feel this compelling force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes.
Did you notice the copy of Vonnegut's 'Slapstick' underneath Arthur Dent's alarm clock in the trailer?
What's wrong with the buying a Mac Mini for the quality of Apple product design, then installing whatever OS you like on it?
It's not copyright violation. It's THEFT!

DNA wrote the first screenplay. It was then re-written by Karey Kirkpatrick.

REVENGE OF THE SITH
War! - huh - yeah-
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again y'all
Ohhh... War! I despise
Because it means destruction'
Of innocent lives
War means tears
to thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
and lose their lives
I said - War! Huh - Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
I think he was wearing his black sweater and blue jeans under that suit.
The hosting service Textdrive has support for Rails and I'm sure many more will pop up.
You make it sound complex. There's a three way switch on the back: 1. Off 2. Play in Order (Radiohead-album-friendly mode) 3. Shuffle
Looks like Apple are getting a taste of their own medicide; here's a report BBC News Online published this morning: iTunes User Sues Apple over iPod.
