Computer Security Still Totally Inadequate
Several news sources are running articles detailing the lack of computer security on all platforms. Symantec foretells a dark future for Firefox and Mac users describing their security as a "false paradise". Kernel developer and Red Hat fellow, Allan Cox stated in his recent interview with O'Reilly that "even the best systems today are totally inadequate". He goes on to say that "We are still in a world where an attack like the Slammer worm, combined with a PC BIOS eraser or disk locking tool, could wipe out half the PCs exposed to the Internet in a few hours," Cox said. "In a sense we are fortunate that most attackers want to control and use systems they attack rather than destroy them."
My first one.
This is why having a Hydrogenous network and/or having a society where no one platform dominates. With systems following open standards and handling them their own way it reduces the likelihood of a Killer Virus or an ultra nasty vulnerability that can knock out 80% of the computer infrastructure immediately. Saying that switching to an other platform to improve security is a bad idea, is really stupid. While Firefox has some security issues they are mostly different then IEs and by choosing the lesser popular platform give you some security threw unpopularity then go for it because it is better then being a larger target. It is like saying people who wear blue are just as likely to get killed when shot with a musket then people who wear red. But if wearing blue makes you less of a target then you are safer then if you are wearing bright red. Plus Symantec makes money off the fear of people, so naturally they want you to use windows, that way you are in constant fear and pay money on their products to make you feel a little safer then all the better. Synantec doesn't want you to use Secure OS's like OpenBSD and use Safer browsers they wouldn't make money that way.
If something is so important that you feel the need to post it on the internet... It probably isn't that important.
is inadequate
Suck my Yoda buttchunks!
I'll give you this link now, before you suffer a period of enforced downtime at the hands of the inevitable.

Now - don't say I never do anything nice for anyone!
Sunday you're Thinking Different, Monday you're a huge tool, paying too much and waiting to think like everyone else.
May she get a yeast infection in her MOUTH!
Probably the same thing the people in New Orleans were saying before Katrina...
The fact that it hasn't happened yet is no indication that it won't, and for all you know it could be any day now.
People knew about the danger New Orleans was in, and that it would be blatantly unprotected if a hurricane of great enough force were to hit. Had the people who had the power to do something stepped up and tried to remedy the situation (not passing judgement, just playing out a scenario) the disaster might not have been so terrible.
You're a dildo.
Proof once again that slashdor moderators wouldn't know humor if it crawled right up a T1 and bit them on the cock.
Bite a dick, you pasty-faced fucktards. That was funny, you just don't have the balls to admit it, and that's why every time your girlfriend asks for a "girls' night out" she ends up over at my place with her face buried in a pillow and me balls-deep in her ass.
Oh yeah, just to make this on-topic... CAN YOU RUN LINUX ON IT?
Shitcocks...
I don't understand 80% of what people are saying,
so here's a bunnie with a pancake on its head:

OK, not really. It's a cool linux search engine
that is like google for your IT log data. My
mother's son works there.
Well everyone has bad days. And when you get 9 posts about a misspelled word, all on a different topic, it is annoying, and frustrating, to have all the rest of your argument, being possibly flawed written in the spur of the moment trying to get first post, to be just ignored because of one word misused from a hasty spell check. So yea so I decided to use my Mod Points yesterday to be a Vindictive ass (While normally I only Moderate up). Perhaps next time you may want to follow more tact. While I probably won't do it again (I was in an abnormally bad mood yesterday) but I am sure other people do, and most of them don't have the courage to admit that they are the ones who did it, knowing quite well that doing it will prevent positive moderation for a long time.
