Bungie News Next Week
Bungie's weekly update is always an interesting read, but this week they have a hint at a surprise to come next week. From the update: "Oh. Keep your eyes peeled next week for a surprising, cool, awesome Bungie-related announcement. No it is not Halo 3, nor is it the surprise revelation of our next project (whatever that may be) but it's sweet. It's something I've hinted at in the past. And you'll probably like it. More than that I can't say. Which even I know is aggravating. But it ain't up to me. So just be patient." News site pundits seem to think this may be a revelation that a Halo character may be in DOA 4. Guess we'll find out next week. Update: 10/04 20:00 GMT by Z : Well, that didn't take long. A Halo character *is* going to be in DOA4, and Peter Jackson is set to produce the Halo movie.
Perhaps it will be the ideal Holloween costume of Master Chief. High quality materials and realistic.

Today, I saw a comment on a message board that a blog I was reading TrackBacked to a blog post in response to a press release that a pundit commented about hearing mentioned on the radio station in the morning. Good thing I had the presence of mind to moblog it on my Sidekick and e-blast it on over to Slashdot, where it attracts meaningful comments like this!

But it won't be something actually major, and might not even be worth mentioning it once they say it. Software companies around the globe are following Bungie's example and announcing announcements they can't announce, but are promising to announce in an announcement in the near future that will be sure to entice!

That's completely stupid. As stupid as putting Link or Spawn into Soul Calibur 2. How about we stop shattering the continuity of existing games by putting your stupid characters in places they don't belong. How can anyone be excited about this. I never understood how PR morons could sleep at night after saying shit like this with a smile on their face... Must be a big paycheck.

Hmmm, they could use 343 Guilty Spark for a ball... don't know that it would actually make the game good, but being able to punch around that smug electric POS might be amusing.
Simply putting a character from one game into another game doesn't really fit any of those categories. "Ho hum" maybe, but none of the above. What WOULD be cool with Halo would be if they did something like provide a "Spectator" mode via the web of ongoing battles on XBL or the PC without needing the game. I'd check in on something like that and it might convince me to buy the game if I hadn't already done so.

This has just been confirmed on Bungie.net The animated gif strongly suggests that the character will be Cortana, notice the bouncing breasts (a feature pioneered by DOA).
Wouldn't that be nice!
They open sourced the Marathon Infinity engine, so maybe... just maybe...
(Then we can find out why the thing requires 16 nVidia SLI cards working in parallel on a supercomputer just to render at a constant 60fps in complex scenes)
