Output Mouse
An anonymous reader writes "Combining unusual items together can sometimes produce interesting results. Over at MetkuMods one can find a computer mouse embedded with a cell phone display to show all sorts of information. For some people one TFT on the desktop just isn't enough."
Does the ringtone play Three Blind Mice?
If brevity is the soul of wit, then how does one explain Twitter?
The transparent hand.
How are you going to watch the screen when your hand is lying on it? But for the rest, it's nicely done.

This is a fantastic mod, and I can see it could have some uses.
There might even be enough space to display slashdot RSS... that is if my shared IP didn't keep getting banned.
I can see it being used as a Mail check screen.
Being the tech savvy people we are, I think it's safe to say we use the keyboard over the mouse if at all possible.
The only real concern I have is that the screen is on the back. Now if you could put one on each side, that would be cool. You would be able to see at least one of the screens then.
An even better design would be to make a completely transparent mouse (glass would be cool), and use some sort of 3d projection system to display an image in the shell. You could display a 3d hovering clock in the mouse that way.
Signature v3.0, now with 42% less memory usage.
A combination steering wheel/cell phone that allows you to drive, talk and watch porn at the same time.
Does anyone know who makes the case in the final picture of the article: Desktop
We all (gasp!) have to step away from the computer now and then. If something demanded your attention, like a new email or IM, this mouse could display the specifics for you while using negligible power. This caller-id-like function could allow you to glance deskward and see the culprit's IM avatar or email address without even breaking the screensaver. It's a phone screen, why not use it like one?

Anyone figure out the costs of all this? The website listed in the article used the abbreviation Kr. for currency and I thought that might be the Krone but 40 bucks for the controller card and the screen sounds a bit cheaper than I expected.
If it were really that cheap I'd love to get a couple and velcro them to the side of my monitor for stuff like ventrillo or irc output.
From TFA:

Into US Dollars (via Yahoo Finance):Is it just me, or has the Optimus been coming out "end of this year" for several years now? Those photos look suspiciously like ones that I'm sure I've seen before, and not recently either.
I just hope it comes out with a predefined keymap for Duke Nukem Forever...
"Ladies and gentlemen, my killbot features Lotus Notes and a machine gun. It is the finest available."
From the title, it sounded much more interesting.
Since my hand will be blocking the mouse, I'm going to install one of those screens in my monitor case where I can see it.
Y'know, when I hear the term "Output Mouse", I'm expecting the opposite of an input mouse; that is, the computer issues commands to move the mouse and it does so, taking your hand with it. And output clicks are handled by poking you in the fingers or thumb. Scroll wheel still needs work.
This just sounds like an LCD display duct-taped onto a mouse by comparison.
Demanding constant attention will only lead to attention.
