The fact that these rovers are still working far beyond the length of time they were intended to last is remarkable in itself. That they can still be programmed to change their routine is something I find remarkable. Yes, they are simple tasks, but it is still quite an achievement.

So these companies get the US government to prevent them from handing over information to a foreign government. Then, when that foreign government wants to track down a violator of their rules these companies get to play the:

I love Microsoft. I don't care how difficult they make make it for me. I will pay as much as they demand to get Vista. I will do anything they ask. You must all realize that it is not just an operating system - it is GOD. It is the only reason to live. It is more important than air, food and water. Without Microsoft there is simply no meaning to life.
Could this type of system also be used to compile a data base of people who make purchases from online stores? Could this then be used to send a bill to an individual for back taxes owed for online purchases? TFA contains few details as to how any of these government agencies has profited from this system. If all of my online purchases could be added up and then taxed then I could be in for a disturbingly large tax due bill from my state, or even from other states in the US.
Anyone know if this system has been considered for use in the United States as a means to tax online shopping?
Actually I don't like to agree with anyone. How else are we going to keep these discussions going on/.? It would be pretty damned boring without someone making arguable comments.

I don't like to agree with Lessig but in this case I feel I must. Congress will go the way the money and influence leads them, and I fear this will not be in the best interest of the internet user and consumer. Corporations will eventually have things their way - the way that will produce the best quarterly profits and earn them the most power and control.

Here we go again. This always comes up. Can you please post links to documentation that supports that statement? Please show me where these Apple service packs are forced on Apple computer users. Just one time I would like someone to show me this is a fact.
