Apple vs Microsoft- Who's the Copycat?
torrensmith writes "Paul Thurrott attacks the Apple Mac OS X Leopard Preview. He does have a few kind words for Apple and its leader Steve Jobs ("They do good work. It's too bad they feel the need to exaggerate so much.", but overall, he rips apart Apple for mimicking Vista, even going so far as to call the Apple fascination with Vista "childish."
Paul does include a healthy review of the latest Leopard features, but quickly returned to his bashing of Apple. "
Them is both copies of window managers for linux, period.
...that the Apple faithful doesn't want to tag as Apple, given the title?
Instead of a fair review, he takes every opportunity to bash Apple. Let's not mention the thousands of features Windows stole from Apple, no, that would be way too fair. What a putz.
More than any other company I cover regularly, Apple plays light and loose with facts. [...] More to the point, Apple's explosion growth in 2005 did nothing to help the Mac's market share, which is still mired at 2 percent worldwide. In other words, Steve's claim is baloney: Apple hasn't really gained any appreciable market share at all--indeed, Apple has lost market share every year since Jobs took the CEO helm--but his comment is technically true: In the slice of time that is the second quarter of 2006, Apple gained--get this--about 1/10th of one percent of market share. And the WWDC crowd goes wild.
I despise Apple-the-company for a lot of reasons, but this is the biggest one. They LIE. From the "twice as fast" ads to the current ads about PCs crashing, they LIE LIE LIE and constantly LIE.
Whenever I bring this up, Apple fans always give me the ol' "yeah, but everyone does it." Everyone does NOT do it to the extent Apple does it. I can't think of any company that is even in the same ballpark as Apple when it comes to dishonesty.
And it's not just marketing dishonesty. It's things like, "The cracks in the cube are designed to be there". I still recall shaking my head at that.
Sometimes it's best to just let stupid people be stupid.
How is this different from "Windows 95 = Mac '86"?
Apology to Ubuntu forum.
Some people are so ignorant. They can't and won't admit that their precious Apple isn't nearly as creative as they would like to think. If they admit this the world would come to an end as they know it because they would no longer have a reason to be arrogant or smug. I usually can't stand Paul, but this time he has more or less managed to nail things squarely on the head. Everyone steals/copies from everyone else, get over it, and get over yourself Apple. Spend half the time you put into your pathetic whining and childish attacks on Microsoft and perhaps then you might actually something to demonstrate to your developers at WWDC other than stationaries and to-do lists. That is really just pathetic Apple. There's a f**king idea. Microsoft cannot even be bothered to stoop to this pathetic level because frankly, Apple is so far from a threat still that it is simply not worth the time or money.
and who the hell cares whose overbloated load of crap came up first?
wake me up when windos or macos can boot into a command line and be administered from that, otherwise I could not care less. I'd guess macosX, being BSD-based, can be administered from command line, but not sure.
As for windos... heh... what a piece of shit... add all the features you want, it may shine like a pearl, but at its very core it is pure shit.
it works for laptops and home lusers, sure, but who cares? not me.

I said essentially the same thing in my blog the other day: "Leopard - Is Apple Late to the Party, Again?" http://mikesalsbury.com/mambo/content/view/519/ Apple seems to have this habit of taking an existing technology (like an MP3 player, a GUI, etc.) putting a slightly prettier package on it, and acting as though they invented it.
pretty much, the only thing TFA really criticizes Apple for stealing from Windows is Spotlight... ... but I remember using Sherlock in middle school, so drop that. It's fine though, because nobody cares what Redmond Fanboy Elite Paul Thurott says, because like most juvenile, punditing corporate sycophants, it's clear that the size of his genitals is insignificant next to anybody who actually matters.
And I've gotten to the point where I don't have a problem with people who support windows, I've got my complaints about the system and therefore I don't use it (I actually find it easier to configure the absolute mess of etc and broken functionality that is Gentoo Linux than Windows), but I recognize that for some people it works, and I respect that. However, presenting your own false ideas that occured to you late at night with your sexual organ deep in the loving embrace of whichever hand wasn't being used to hold the framed photograph of Gatesy-poo in view is a pretty low standard for editorialism.
Slashdot, we would appreciate it if you gave us Redmond pundacy that actually could form coherent ideas without reaching orgasm at the thought of tasting the sweat off of Steve Ballmer's ass.
+5, Truth
Apple needs a parrot like Microsoft has Thurrot. sorta autority like well known IT veteran who gets attention every time he posts something in his blog. Then he/she could concentrate on bashing each other, and leave the companies alone for a moment. why the heck we care by the way whan Thurrot says? does it require attention enough to be posted into Slashdot every single time he says something stupid (like he always does).
Are you implying your intelligence can't be insulted? Interesting...
windows for sure cannot, osx, as the guy above indicated, can, using a cool hack.
shiny candy colored UIs are all fine and dandy, but for fucks sake, why the hell would one have that on a SERVER? microsoft advertises that shit as a SERVER OS, and, sadly, some clueless people go for it. I have seen farms of NT 3.51 and 4.0 servers, creepy, creepy stuff.
Does apple make 'servers' too? I don't think so, but I am usually wrong about this type of stuff.

No
Can anyone confirm the rumor that Apple has removed the OPTION key from all new Mac Pro keyboards? I guess Options are a sensitive subject in Cupertino these days. Yes, Jobs did look rather gaunt and drawn during the keynote. But bear two things in mind: 1. He is a recovering pancreatic cancer victim. 2. He is either a vegan or vegetarian (or a vulcan?) Jobs did seem to rely upon his exec staff more than in the past, but it did afford us the opportunity to size them up a bit. A few observations. 1. Phil Schiller looks as though he could hold his own in a Sumo wrestling bout with Steve Ballmer. 2. Bertrand sounded as though he was auditioning for the Inspector Clouseau part in The Pink Panther. 3. Scott Forrestall (flunky!?!) appeared to be aping Steve Jobs' gestures, mannerisms and speech patterns. Is he the anointed one? Is he being groomed as Jobs' successor? If it happens, you read it here first. Like most of Wall Street and the world, I and other Apple stockholders hope that neither illness nor executive shuffling prevent Jobs -- duplicitous as he may be -- from helming Apple for some time to come.

Well i dont have a tv. At a friends i saw these ads the other day. I was surprised. They were quite condescending and offensive. Especially when its played more than one time in a given 30 minute program. They are exactly why i will never consider a mac for ANYTHING. The symbolism was pretty much dead on though. Competent older computer user who looks like a business man (they purposefully made him fat but ill leave that aside), debates with snotty hipster elitest. Sounds about right to me. They could have made that guy gay to more reflect reality but i digress. Im just actually surprised that they pulled the mac guy away from constantly updating his blog and going for mocachinos to do these ads.
These ads say to me 'if I buy a mac, i'm going to become an unshaven jean wearing hipster (whoes probably in the closet), who cant shut the hell up about a computer because its got pretty colours and that i can use to search for hot cock on myspace.' For god sakes these things run INTEL processors now.. I hope every last mac melts into a space heated pile of white goo. Not eveyones ideal lifestyle, and you are most definately buying a lifestyle, is a 20 something hipster who constantly talks about how much better he is than everyone else. A computer is a tool. People really need to stop making computers into appliances. I also never baught into the 'buy all your furniture at ikea to be cool' trend of a few years ago either. This is because ikea makes crap furniture marketed to hipsters.
