Russian Rocket Hits Wyoming

Harmonious Botch wrote in with a CNN story that opens: "A spent Russian booster rocket re-entered the atmosphere Thursday over Colorado and Wyoming, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said. NORAD spokesman Sean Kelly said the agency was trying to confirm a report that a piece of the rocket may have hit the ground near Riverton, Wyoming, at about 6 a.m. Kelly said military personnel had not yet reached the scene. No damage was reported and the debris was not believed to be hazardous, NORAD said. Eyewitnesses reported seeing flaming objects in the sky at the time the rocket was re-entering, Kelly said."

...I already made fun of it hours ago. Pretty sad when a stupid little joke site beats the news site. On the other hand, had this been an actual attack, I wouldn't have made fun of it, and /. still wouldn't have posted the story as the editors would have been heading for the hills.

Hmm, I don't know about that. We saw some pretty effective city evacuation with Katrina. With a 40 minute warning, we could save, oh, I don't know, maybe tens, even dozens of people...

(And, of course, it wouldn't be too late at all for a retaliatory strike from mobile platforms.)

"If that's a defeat then I guess the US has lost a lot of wars." The US has lost a lot of wars, Vietnam ring any bells? War of 1812? That however, is beside the point, Iraq is as close to complete and total explosion as any Mid East nation since Iran under the Shah; the war has added to the political polarization globally and dramatically increased the number of dedicated anti US terrorists in many nations around the world, THIS is not a victory, it is a complete and total loss on a scale not seen before. Vietnam fell to Soviet backed revolutionaries; Iraq has been taken from the US by a loose collection of still novice resistance fighters. How embarrassing for her invaders. How tragic for her people.
