Street Fighter IV Officially Announced
Along with the announcement of the new-for-modern-consoles Bionic Commando, Capcom has also officially revealed the existence of Street Fighter IV . Other than the fact that it is in development there aren't a lot of details on the game, with little more than a gameplay-less trailer to view. Gamespot reports: "The trailer depicts longtime rivals Ken and Ryu duking it out once more, this time in a moonlit forest. The two friends and frequent rivals exchange, block, and parry blows for about a minute, busting out such familiar moves as the hurricane kick and dragon punch. With neither fighter gaining the advantage, Ryu charges up a fireball that bathes the screen in white before the Street Fighter IV logo appears with a splash of blood, followed by a warning to 'Prepare yourself.'"
Is it RHY-oo or REE-oo?

It's taken them 16 years to go from releasing Street Fighter 2 to announcing 4. It's almost like they're taking a cue from the Duke Nukem Forever dev team.
Let's see... it's 2007... will this be the Street Fighter: Retirement Home edition?

"z0mg I can't wait". The synic in me says: Sucks that there is no such thing as an arcade game anymore, only $1 ride on pieces of crap. I would so love to pump quarters into this game... but I will have to settle for sitting on my couch throwing out dragon punches.
I don't know, perhaps - and may be I'm reaching here - you don't comment?
I didn't want to leave this blank.
Hopefully, they'll stick with the classic 2D design, with higher resolution art and a higher frame rate.
And they'd better include Blanka!
STREET FIGHTER IV: Ultra Lazer Ham Sandwich Death Combat Edition, with 1 new fighter and 6 new costumes. Only $59.99
Bury me in mashed potatoes.
Then count me out. I guess I don't like change, but I just wasn't all that impressed by SF3. At least they show Ryu and Ken in the teaser.

Fighting streets? How do you fight a street? And how does it fight back?
that the upright version has THIRTY SIX buttons for each player!
Note: This sig contains nine S's, nine I's and five O's which... means absolutely nothing.
Altho the clip is hilarious, i consider it MUCH BETTER than the van-damme movie. It's worth watching, trust me.
P.S. You'll love Blanka's appearance on the third episode.
I really liked the old-school side-only view of Street Fighter.
It just seemed more playable. And fun.
I do not respond to cowards. Especially anonymous ones.
I was hoping for Street Fighter III Hyper Turbo Championship Edition.
There were only three capcom fighting games I liked. SF II; SF vs. X-men; Marvel Super Heroes (based around the Infinity gems). When the SF: Alpha mess got all cartoony, I called it quits.
BTW, Guile rules.
Wait wait wait... You mean I missed Street Fighter 3?!
Or you can just get Super Smash Bros. Brawl this February and play with a character that has so many of the same moves it might as well be named Blankachu.
Akiman announced years ago that Capcom Japan had sold off the Street Fighter license to Capcom USA, and that his team was no longer working with it (other than I believe to complete Hyper Street Fighter II, the commemorative anniversary remix game). I have very little faith in Capcom USA, who now own and control the license to all things Street Fighter. While nothing about the game except the inclusion of two characters (one of which whose face was very oddly designed) can be learned from the trailer, Capcom USA's track record with the parent company's franchises is very, very poor. If they think they can handle all the code themselves and farm out the art to those blasted amateur fanboys at Udon (for example), I really think the end product is doomed to mediocrity. OTOH, if they ease up on the reins and contract a sizable number of the original SF game team members, and also keep those non-existent-muscle-group-drawing-we-can-draw-Japanese-style-too fools at Udon the hell away from the project, I might be worried about nothing at all. Of course, the game would have to rely heavily on 2D gameplay (if not graphics), considering the traditional SF movesets do not translate well to good 3D gameplay (just look at SF EX). Or maybe it's a resurrection of the canceled Capcom Fighting All-Stars engine, and maybe it's 3D done right. Who knows? We'll have to wait for the first in-game shots at least to see how everything might pan out.
One thing I'd be interested in seeing is whether they continue to alienate new players the way the SF3 games did. SF3 was strictly a tourneytard's game; only existing fighting game players could approach it because high-level technical play was pretty much a requirement. SF2 and SFA offered significantly fewer rewards for the technical player over the casual player, but were far more enjoyable (and therefore marketable) to the casual player as a result. I'm not saying the SF series should be scrubbed down to a stupid level, I'm only curious to see what approach they take, assuming the current team has given the issue much thought.

Quoting that GameSpot article:So now I know that "... later this week." now means, "... in two years." when it comes to GameSpot's rumors.
I hope Capcom remains faithful to the 2D gameplay. I'm not against full 3D characters, however, if they take an approach similar to Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros on the DS. We're at a point with 3D graphics where characters can be made detailed enough that they could pass for 2D sprites. And this way we enjoy the benefit of extremely fluid animation.
If they do go with 2D sprites I hope we get high-resolution artwork with animation on the level of a good anime. But given the considerable amount of production required for all that animation I'd say 3D on a 2D plane is the way to go.
Yeah, Ryu == [ri] + [small-yu] in Japanese. These get turned into Ryu by the romanization rules, and parent is quite right about how to pronounce a Japanese 'r'--phonologically, it's something called a "flap", but that's totally meaningless to most people and parent post describes pretty much how you make that sound.
Just be glad. It's nowhere near as hard to learn to say as the vowel sound in the French word feu (which you say by puckering your lips to say oooooh but then voicing an eeeee sound instead; it's not an oh, eew, or uh).
Nothing like intravenous Street Fighter. Anyone know if it's gonna be by prescription only? If so, what symptoms should I present? I'm willing to start smoking again if cancer is necessary.

made the mediocre Super Dragonball Z... And StreetFighter III played fine if you weren't hardcore. Yeah, the parry system was useless to you, but it was still loads of fun and a joy to watch. Hell, try playing GGX or SoulCalibur or (*shudder*) King of Fighters XI against a tournament grade player and it's brutal. If you think you need to be hardcore to play SFIII, you don't play a lot of fighting games...

I don't know, perhaps - and may be I'm reaching here - you don't comment? Thats crazy-talk.
It's hard to see how they can move SF forwards now. A lot of people still play SFII in Japanese arcades, but for fighting games Guilty Gear has mostly taken over. GG is the antipathy of SF in just about every way. Movement is extremely fluid, moves don't mirror each other, combos do less damage the longer they go on etc.
SF experimented with various gimmicks, but in the end hasn't really changed much since SFII.
