    Joesixpack00 probably meant that Intel has the performance crown (i7), but when it comes to bang for buck in more reasonable market segments AMD wins, especially with Phenom II processors.

    It takes fully charged body shot to one-hit kill you and you can't aim that well when you're on the run from that shot.

    Yeah, soldiers can be really annoying for snipers, I don't see many of them harassing them though, at least on the public servers.

    Run it in DX8 mode. You loose shader effects but it runs leaps and bounds better on hardware of this class and doesn't actually look much worse. One of the computers I'm playing TF2 on has Athlon64 3500+ (single core), 1GB of RAM and GeForce 6600 (not 6600GT, big difference).

    Spies have better things to do which makes snipers the only viable countermeasure for other snipers. That's a problem IMHO.

    Not around here, in Poland. Linux Eees are very rare and expensive. I imagine it might be the same in a lot of countries and that's the primary reason behind 7:3 ratio.

    My experience is that aftermarket batteries are usually cheaper and offer wider range of capacities, often much better than original ones. If Apple batteries are so much better then they shouldn't be afraid of knock-offs. Let the market decide.

    I think everybody is missing the point. IMHO this ad tried to show that PCs are a diverse bunch. They are mostly running Windows OS but come from different manufacturers, in many forms, are dynamic in getting everywhere. Not just unifided glossy white/black/aluminum of Apple PCs for trendy hipsters. Those people use and are PCs in this sense.

    On the other hand, since people do not notice this, the advertising has failed.

    Did you use it or do you show off? KDE default window manager does not support tabs. Window manager and browser are not really integrated, are they? And no, your obscure custom configuration does not count.

    You miss the point. Chrome makes titlebar and tabs essentialy the same thing, especially when maximized. This saves a bit of vertical space which is very useful on netbooks with 1024x600 resolution.

    Fallout 2 was released in 1998. Back in the Win9x times nobody cared about priviliges (it wasn't exactly a multi-user OS) and everything was supposed to run with administrator priviliges.

    As far as I know, Call of Duty 4 does not have any DRM. Searching "Call of Duty 4 $DRM" where $DRM equalled DRM, SecuROM, and Starforce, turned up nothing relevant.

    It is most commonly used for describing producing tons of tanks in Command & Conquer series. I don't get how do you see tank rushing (as you have described it) a problem in Starcraft.

    I will have to agree with GGGP post, this game is really balanced. Blizzard worked on Starcraft for years after it came out and it shows. I'm still playing it sometimes with my friends - it never gets old.

    Chrome made me discover different methods of ad blocking. Windows "HOSTS" file with every ad server directed to 127.0.0.1 seems to work well. See here.

    ETQW is an awesome game but Team Fortress 2 is all the rage recently and steals much of it's target group. Marketing for TF2 is top notch and Valve is doing a great job of supporting this title. I was considering buying QW but ended up with TF2 just because it was $10 cheaper :) Not to mention Steam being quite nice these days. I wouldn't be surprised if QW was more popular if it was marketed as well as TF2 is.

    I had pretty bad case of crashing with SB Audigy myself and I'm pretty sure that's what caused crashes because physical removal of Audigy and enabling onboard Intel HDA fixed all my problems. That crap (Audigy SE) doesn't even properly work under Vista anyway.

    Firefox 3 also contributes a lot in terms of Flash stability, there was a long standing bug where browser would crash when closing a tab with Flash content occasionaly - it doesn't happen in FF3 anymore. Epiphany still crashes though even though it's using same engine.

    With the prices of LCD displays today I'm really looking into a GPU with overabundance of RAM. I have seen some 24" Gateway for about $500 (in Poland, so that means it includes 22% VAT and higher praces for everything), and it wasn't just crappy TN matrix, it was S-IPS. Other manufacturers will soon follow, I guess so it's just a matter of (relatively little) time when 1920x1200 becomes popular.

    What imaginary gamer it is? I have yet to meet one not satisfied with game dropping to 50/59/60 frames per second. I have yet to see a game that doesn't have vertical sync with display as an option but you seem to live in a fantasy land where GPU can always keep 60 or even 30FPS so that it does not fall automatically into 15FPS during more intense moments.

    IANA3DGFXET (I Am Not A 3D Graphics Expert Too) but I've seen some recent video cards benchmarks and high amount of video memory helps performance at high resolution and with anti-aliasing. For example GeForce 9600GT with 512MB of RAM and 8800GS with 384MB are pretty much the same in terms of performance but at higher resolutions there's some noticable difference.

    Linux is preloaded on such machines mostly because Microsoft "convinced" the governments of many countries that no computer should be sold without OS to reduce piracy. Manufacturers get around those laws by preloading Linux and even sometimes FreeDOS - seems that they have a good sense of humour :)

    Yes, at least in here in Poland it's a regular practice. What's totally fucked up is that english ones usually cost up to twice as much as the localised ones. Add that we aren't used to this kind of translations (movies in cinema are almost exclusively subtitled and TV uses voice-over via Gavrilov translation) and it just feels wrong to hear our language used by Stroggs and other alien invaders.
