Wikileaks Opens Official Online Store
siliconbits writes "You can now buy officially branded Julian Assange T-Shirts, cups, netbook sleeves or bags and contribute financially to the Wikileaks fight. From the article: 'Wikileaks is looking to generate more revenue by launching an online shop that is run by Spreadshirt AG. Supporters of Julian Assange and the Wikileaks cause will be able to buy a variety of products like shirts, messenger bags, hats, buttons, scarves etc.'"
But where are the Julian Assange contraceptives? ;)

When the foot seeks the place of the head, the line is crossed. Know your place. Keep your place. Be a shoe.
Whether you liked it before, or hated it, it's now an Assange fan club, of no real importance or effectiveness. Beware the cult of personality, even those would ostensibly believe in similar causes to you.
T-Shirt's with his picture? Seriously?
Assange signature condoms and the "I fled Sweden and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" shirts. I did find the "Let loose this cable" boxer shorts and "I'm probably going to fry" chef aprons to be a bit distasteful.
Awww man, I can't get a gray hoodie with Assange's face plastered on it?
the preceding comment is my own and in no way reflects the opinion of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
I don't want his smug holier-than-thou bullshit grin on my clothing. Wikileaks I can support, Assange I can not.
Gone!
longtime advisor and consultant, Joe Lieberman, has informed us of your hacker terrorist site and its unpatriotic nature. Commencing immediately all credit card processing has been suspended for your store,
Regards,
Master of Cards.
Good people go to bed earlier.
Is this for real (has Assange actually endorsed this?) or is this just a scam or another attempt to discredit/embarrass Wikileaks/Assange? I haven't seen anything about it on Wikileaks actual website.
SJW: Someone who has run out of real oppression, and has to fake it.
I can't wait to hand over my credit card info to an organisation dedicated to releasing secret information!
Wonder if they sell Wikileaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on Secrecy...
If you are going to show how the Rich people in charge are corrupt... You shouldn't do that while selling your own wares.
If something is so important that you feel the need to post it on the internet... It probably isn't that important.
There are soo many leaks sites running around now that Assange won't "control the market" anymore. Imho, Assange deserves credit for pushing this cultural shift, both by trying to make an uncrackable publication chain and by putting himself on the line going after the U.S. I'll buy a shirt with his face for that.
You'll notice however that Anonymous' HBGary hackers didn't bother protecting their anonymity by gong through wikileaks, they just handled it themselves using proxies, friends, public wifi, etc. If enough hacks and leaks are occurring, and we're explaining reasonable precautions to people, then maybe Assange's leaker protections aren't all that important. And we've all heard how wikileaks backlog is just brutal, even when they still accepted material.
The Christian religion has been and still is the principal enemy of moral progress in the world. -- Bertrand Russell
Wikileaks stopped offering coffee mugs on the store because they made such a mess.
And all I got was this lousy t-shirt.

So how much of the income actually goes to WikiLeaks-the-website, versus funding for Assange's legal defense fund (on UNRELATED charges) or to support Assange's own ego-inflated life-style?
I might be persuaded to support WikiLeaks, but I won't spend a single penny to support Assange's defense on a rape charge. (And the idea that the Swedes, of all countries, are going to send Assange to Git-Mo, is particularly ludicrous. UK is -much closer- to the US in that regard; if I were Assange and I really believed that shit, I'd feel a lot safer in a Swedish court than a British one. That's not intended as a dig on UK justice, by the way, but as an acknowledgement that the British and the US have much tighter connections on terrorism cases.)
With all the problems with various institutions blocking wikileaks transactions its a mystery why they don't support Bitcoin. Bitcoins can't be blocked, traced, back-charged, or any nonsense like that, plus there are no fees or central authorities to game the system. Peer 2 Peer (P2P) Currency baby!
And of course you can exchange them for dollars, or Euros, or Rubles, or gold, or xBox 360s on the internet....when the time comes.
If wikileaks starts accepting Bitcoins I pledge $500 USD transferred in $BTC (About 550 BTC or so right now, flucuates a little) within 24 hours of the announcement.
I've been noticing that images of Assange in the media have been growing increasingly messianic. He's essentially been turned into this dapper stud. I think Wikileaks is great, but I have a huge problem with the way this one twit, who seems to have a massive ego, is getting all the credit.
I find it pathetic that people can't help but glorify an individual for something scores of people have worked towards. It's not just those who built Wikileaks, but all the personal risks people have taken to leak all that information.
Wow. I see a lot of funny comments, but also a lot of whiny bitches. *cry* Assange is a media whore! Assange is a poser! Assange is this, Assange is that */cry* Really? Does anyone read what they type before they hit submit?
1) The shirts with his face aren't the only item in the store. I bought a hat that says Wikileaks on it, along with a shirt that says the same. You don't have to buy the one with the pic of his face on it. (Frankly, the shirt with his face on it IS kinda on the creepy side. Not sure who would buy that shirt, Assange fan-boy or not. But that doesn't make the whole idea of wikileaks selling stuff wrong.)
2) Not sure what the big deal is. WikiLeaks needs $, just like any other organization, in order to keep the leaks flowing. Nobody is forcing you to buy a shirt with Assange's face on it. In fact, nobody is forcing you to buy anything at all.
3) Assange fan-club or not, WikiLeaks has provided, and will hopefully continue to provide, insight into the shady dealings of governments and military's . They have done more good than bad. Who cares if Assange likes media attention? If WikiLeaks never had media attention, then the leaks would be MEANINGLESS. Assange never asked for rape charges to be drummed up and then covered to DEATH by every major media outlet. And he has, for the most part, used the media coverage to dispel the lies and get the word out about WikiLeaks and the content of the actual leaks.
4) How is it a bad thing they are doing this? This store is most likely in response to their other means of funding being shut down! Remember how you used to be able to donate through paypal? Well now you can donate by buying a freaking Assange shirt. Either support them or shut up. I really don't see another reason to try and call Assange a media whore again. That isn't what the store is about. It's about funding wikileaks.
"I hope you know how very lucky you are to know me, because I am so incredibly incredible."
Oooo, do they have a shirt that says "Leakers do it by surprise" on the back?
...or: "How to lose your government Security Clearance with only 1 click."
I'd buy something, not because I want to support wikileaks, more for the absurdity of it. Two things stop me; the big one it has his face as the brand, not some super 1337 logo, second I live in a military town and I would face getting my ass kicked by some 11B's, third (I know, I said two) I anti-support (yes I think he is an enemy of the USA, yes I think there should be state secrets, yes I also think there should SOMETIMES be leaks, but not like this).
They come in the dark, only in the darkest.
The store was linked on Slashdot previously. If you go to page 4 you will see a black t-shirt with only the biohazard logo sans "Courage is Contagious". I emailed the store and requested such a T-shirt, as I noticed they had another product with just the logo. Twenty minutes later, it was online and I ordered it. The shirt arrived yesterday and it is beautiful! The drippy planet in the middle is a shiny silver, which means I get to wear a bauble. Win.
They'll keep it private for sure...
As someone put it recently "Julian Assange is like a second string character in a William Gibson novel"
I thought you could buy state secrets!
(Cheap of course - and a sale on weekends!)
If Google really cared they would fix Android Chrome to reflow text, instead of discriminating
If you buy anything from their shop, they post your credit card info and billing address online.
If the site is about getting money to Wikileaks, then I think they should sell plain white (no logo or text whatsoever) shirts for $100.
profit!

Does anyone else find it ironic that the website selling stuff for an organization that loves anonymity for the people uses google analytics?
