Here at Slashdot, we watched as Twitter distilled perfected minimalized trivialized discourse to just the perfect 140 characters, while kuro5hin Digg reddit WSJ showed us that everyone's voice mattered equally when creating the noise news noose narcissistic experience. We've taken the next step with SlashTweaks. Within each Slashdot story dupe trollbait turdshine you will be presented with several opportunities to make micro-edits: ranging from factual errors or tonal shifts to simple typos. Since Tweaks are just a single word, there is very little barrier to entry... you have no excuse not to participate. Stories will incorporate the highest rated goatse SlashTweak natalieportman grits socially and mathematically guaranteeing the best story possible. Our highest rated trolling karmawhoring paying users can start new tweaks on individual words, while everyone else will be rating existing tweaks.       I can't believe this was modded [mod]. You're obviously another rabid [OS] fanboy worshiping at the feet of [Tech CEO]. The summary was horribly written, but what do you expect from [Slashdot Editor]? Why is this even filed under [Slashdot category, not 'Idle']? I should have been filed under [Slashdot category, use 'Idle']. While IANA[letter], I do know about [random subject] from reading [website] and you'll notice I have a [number from 1 to 100] Slashdot ID. What needs to be done is [personal opinion]. Of course, it'll never work because [conspiracy theory]. Finally, in [political organization] [country], [object] [verb] YOU!

      Actually, xkcd's effort this year is (a) fun and (b) is a cool hack. Not so much a "gotcha" though since (like last year) they've actually been and gone and done it (Don't just look at the latest cartoon).

      Sorry, Slashdot pranksters, to rain on your parade, but you needed to add tweaks to every single article to compete...

      If you flip on the preferences to the equivalent of "use the old stuff", the changes aren't that noticeable (but maybe you liked the middle redesign more than this one or don't like to stay logged in).

    That's often what happens with April Fools jokes. Most are silly, but some are silly enough that they actually raise a point.

    I'm just worried that the one I'll be posting in a few hours on @climagic will not end up with someone patching the source to accomplish such a thing.

    If the summaries were more accurate and fact-checked, the discussion could start on the topic. But since we often times get wrong statements, opinions are raised based on the wrong assumptions, those have to be refuted and checked etc. etc.
    I think better summaries would start better discussions.

    You have that problem, too? I thought it was because I was working on a system with limited tech in it. When I moderate, I click on the dropdown, but suddenly my screen shifts above as the parent post is expanded. So I scroll down, click the dropdown again, but suddenly my screen shifts above as the GP post is expanded. So I scroll down, click the dropdown again, but suddenly... until it has expanded the entire thread and I can then finally make my choice.

    Agreed. I have come to Slashdot every April first hoping to have the return of the OMG Ponies. It was legendary.

    While I have too high a number to attempt to discuss how the level of discourse has fallen around here, the number of joke articles on April 1 has truly sucked. I'll take a couple GOOD joke articles but that's it.

    You know just how frakking messed up micro-editing is, right? It renders your RSS feed unreadable.

    And then there's the complete devastation of IE7 users. I'm stuck with this at work. Browser snobbery is counterproductive, even if there are security issues, which my corporate security has so far solved so well that IE7 doesn't work here any more. More pus.

    Slashdot code is not getting better. Hopefully this is part of a cycle of break/fix.
