FBI Releases Boston Bombing Suspect Images/Videos

An anonymous reader writes "The FBI has released images of what they say are two suspects with backpacks and ball caps. 'Somebody out there knows these individuals as friends, neighbors, co-workers or family members of the suspects,' Special Agent Rick DesLauriers, the head of the FBI's Boston office said. 'And though it may be difficult, the nation is counting on those with information to come forward and provide it to us.'"

No, idiot, they're asking people who were in Boston on Monday taking pictures with their smartphones to look through their photos again. Chances are lots of people inadvertently got photos of the guys, and some of those might be clear enough for identification (as opposed to the crummy security cam footage).

This assumes that the men in the photos are guilty, please don't be another member of our society who convicts people in the court of public opinion, there's far too many Nancy Grace viewers already. How about "I suspect the people who carried out this crime have already gone into hiding" or something along those lines. Sorry if this comes off as pedantic.

I'm surprised that the doubting Thomases are getting so many mod points around here today. There is no better facial recognition system in the world than the human brain. The pictures are worthlessly low-res and indiscriminate? Someone who knows these individuals will correlate the physical details of the face, the expression, the height, haircut, posture, and clothing instantly and unconsciously. They will be recognized. Those acquaintances can see the forest. All we are getting is trees.

And to cover the other criticism of why these two were chosen... Both were seen walking together with black backpacks. Then each one was seen individually right at one of the two bomb sites. In the case of suspect #2, there is video of him putting his backpack down and then walking away from it. Personally I agree that this is sufficient to refer to both individuals as "suspects."

What about Timothy McVeigh? Are you saying it's ok for US military veterans to kill kids at a day care center? Are you saying it's justified for NRA members to blow up buildings? Should we look the other way when American raised as Catholics commit mass murder?

No, I think you would disagree. Because in those instances we're tying one nutjob murderer to larger groups that he is not a representative member of. So why do you make that same mistake with muslims, assuming they're all evil or that there's a vast muslim movement to destroy the US? Are you listening to too much of the far right wing media that keeps insisting that muslims are the enemy, spending too much time reading WorldNet Daily, going to one of those churches who falsely teach that islam is a religion of violence while overlooking all the violence that Christians have committed?

And why do you think this bombing was the result of muslims in the first place?

The two were also on the [New York] Post's front Thursday with the headline: "Bag men: Feds seek these two pictured at Boston Marathon." The Post reported later Thursday that the pair weren't considered suspects. But Barhoum, a track runner at Revere High School, said he is convinced some will blame him for the bombings, no matter what.

He said he was so fearful on Thursday that he ran back to the high school after a track meet when he saw a man in a car staring at him, talking into a phone. He said he won't feel safe until the bombers are caught. "I'm going to be scared going to school," Barhoum said. "Workwise, my family, everything is going to be scary."
