The iPhone 5S Hasn't Been Officially Announced, Already Has Line

Daniel_Stuckey writes "The iPhone 5S line has already begun, despite Apple not even having made its announcement yet. From the looks of the invite to the unveiling in San Francisco on Sept. 10 (and another event the following day in Beijing, where iPhones are all the rage), the company will not only be announcing a next generation iPhone, the 5S, but also the lower-priced 5C model, in a variety of cheaper-looking colors."

Oversimplified explanation? Leaving out critical details? Which is not unexpected from an apple hater.

Supposedly there is some sort of acceleration baked in to one of the chips that does language/voice/audio processing. (iPad2 and up, 4s and up) Siri does work without it, but the performance is crap. It does not work "fine" on the 3gs. It's jerky and slow and not really usable. That was supposedly one of the factors that led apple to leave it out of older models. That, and they decided to use it as a marketable feature to sell newer devices.

The Siri binaries work without the hardware accell because they originally intended and tested Siri to work on older devices, then changed their mind later. (And yes, it's a port of an app they bought from another party too) It's also been suggested that they intended to add features to Siri that would require the accell, and that means later versions of Siri would not work on older hardware at all. Siri's sort of a meh feature anyway, and did not turn out to be a must-have game changer anyway, so all of this argument is moot. Not every feature turns out to be a winner.
