China Expresses Concern at Revelations in Wikileaks Dump of Hacked CIA Data (reuters.com)
China has expressed concern over revelations in a trove of data released by Wikileaks purporting to show that the CIA can hack all manner of devices, including those made by Chinese companies. From a report on Reuters: Dozens of firms rushed to contain the damage from possible security weak points following the anti-secrecy organization's revelations, although some said they needed more details of what the U.S. intelligence agency was up to. Widely-used routers from Silicon Valley-based Cisco were listed as targets, as were those supplied by Chinese vendors Huawei and ZTE and Taiwan supplier Zyxel for their devices used in China and Pakistan. "We urge the U.S. side to stop listening in, monitoring, stealing secrets and internet hacking against China and other countries," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a daily news briefing.
Perhaps China should be *more* worried about the people who hacked the CIA, rather than the CIA? If there are all these security holes in Chinese made kit, then the Russians will be exploiting them just as much as the CIA.
d-link is safe from prying eyes everything is good.
As a Canadian, it's become harder and harder to decide which country is the least hostile between the U.S.A., China and Russia.
I like most Americans, but your government? Yuck.
"We urge the U.S. side to stop listening in, monitoring, stealing secrets and internet hacking against China and other countries," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a daily news briefing.
really?????? thats funny coming from china, the king of stealing IP
"We urge the U.S. side to stop listening in, monitoring, stealing secrets and internet hacking against China and other countries"
I enjoy that a Chinese official is openly asking the US to stop doing what the Chinese are trying to do. Clearly the Chinese are embarrassed because they thought they had high level abilities but now with the leaks it's obvious that the Chinese are as behind the times as ever.
"We urge the U.S. side to stop listening in, monitoring, stealing secrets and internet hacking against China and other countries,"
Next: China resumes hacking the planet.
China is just mad that the CIA is using the backdoors installed in the equipment they build.
How many of those product back doors in items sold to the USA are there at the request of the Chinese government? We do this, it would be insane to believe they didn't. Much face-flapping about nothing.
"You're right," Fisheye says. "I should have set it on 'whip' or 'chop.'"
This is a prime example of the pot calling the kettle black.
China: "They can't do that to our equipment. Only we can do that to our equipment."
A political point-scoring game, nothing more.
This really isn't news, it's just countries trying to save face and do a quick shaming, finger wag at the US and CIA in regards to 'get off our digital lawns'. All countries have, do, practice, implement, will and always forever have cyber-warfare and hacking toolkits developed in-house for any op, espionage, defensive or offensive they do.
This is easy for China: I mean, who the hell wouldn't jump on the shit-talk bandwagon to get a few jabs in after a release like this just so you don't look 'as bad'?
All immediate perception here IMHO.
. . . . irony, indeed, from a nation with a well-established formal hacking infrastructure, both military and corporate. . .
Without poorly made Chinese IoT devices we wouldn't have the DDOS attacks that currently plague the internet. If you make them secure from DDOS you'll do just fine with national state attacks.
show that the CIA can hack all manner of devices, including those made by Chinese companies.
Isn't that redundant? Aren't the vast majority of devices made in China, including the ones they've ripped off from everyone else? Of course they can be hacked, it's the same product with a different face.
LOL ! Thief crying "thief!!!!". No more decency in this world ....
Dear China.
You first.
Sincerely,
The IC.
We accuse people of hacking our systems, but we are doing it in turn. No surprise. And what do we expect the Chinese to say with these finding? Of course they are doing it, and we are doing it. Everybody's doing it now. We seem to be like children: "Why can't I, everybody else is?". It's like the arms race with nuclear weapons, expect we are using these weapons and they are easy to make publicly accessible. (As the frequent leaks are proving).
What I'd really like to know is why aren't US citizens showing their outrage at having their basic constitutional right to privacy as well as due process to search of private data (which often resides in their home) violated on a daily (more likely many. many times per day) basis. Americans' need to stand up for what they say they believe in.
"Imagination is more important than knowledge" - Einstein
Dear China
Did you guys stop yet?
Thanks,
Kettle
Could you please contains the massive 25000 hits I get from your country each day? Then, perhaps, we'll try to stop hacking your butt off.
Tx.
I can't call that English
"China concerned that someone else is able to do what they have been able to do."
China is far more concerned that now all Chinese citizens will know their own government spies on them using the backdoors they built into all the TVs and cell phones they made.
They care nothing about the US impact, only propping up their government.

And I urge China to stop with the intense industrial espionage, including disassembly of a satellite they were hired to launch. And of course stop the spying in the US. China places "students" in US Universities and then encourages the hiring of them by US defense and technology companies. They take a traditional long view and can wait years before gathering useful information. Only the clumsy spies get caught. The US has no idea of the actual numbers due to their liberal support for foreign students by the State Department, and, well, the freedoms in the US. Take a look at recent Chinese aircraft designs, their missile programs rapid advances, as well as their nuclear weapons programs advances. US technology finds it way into all of them. And just on the level of insipid deception alone, they bought an aircraft carrier from Ukraine (sans nuclear reactors that had not been installed yet); purchased by a private Chinese concern and destined to be a casino. That casino is the Chinese military's first aircraft carrier.

I am in wallow with my inner money grubbing capitalistic pig. ... Oink!
I'm now getting hate from Liberals and Conservatives alike for being a moderate. It got lost in all the 'OMG Libtards going APESHIT' 'Conservatives rubbing it in Libtards faces' drama the media was pushing, but the major concern of the election shouldn't have been who won, it was that the popular vote was ALMOST EVENLY DIVIDED ACROSS PARTY LINES.
That should have recieved a lot more discussion, and a small bit of it was coming out recently: Liberals and conservatives have dramatically different ideas of what America should be, and the two sides have been growing more polarized each year. It is getting to a point where for America to function there either needs to be a second civil war, a constitutional referendum, or a mass migration and secession movement as the country's inhabitants reorganize themselves into liberal and conservative strongholds and formally separate. The current situation has been coming for at least 150 years (and depending on who you ask, for as long as the colonies have existed.)
We KNOW that China, Russia etc. are doing these things & can at least suspect now that they have equivalent capabilities and potentially worse since alot of 'silcone' comes out of China. I take it for granted I/we have to guard against them & I suspect everyone with a brain does as well. The only thing this CIA drop does is allow China et.al. to take a 'holier than thou' position but that's just good to give us all a good laugh. I'd like to know if the Chinese spokersperson could keep a straight face when saying this shit.
America has a history of stealing technology from other nations. The post war economic boom in America was driven by plundered German and British technology, particularly in rocketry and aerospace. This is a parriah state that does not play by any legal norms, and as such needs to be completely isolated.
Complete distortion of reality and a generalization fallacy. The majority of Americans are not imperialist war mongering bigots as you claim, the majority want to be left alone to pursue a career, family, and make their lives a little better. They don't care who their neighbors are as long as they respect Liberty in the same way they do. That is the majority, and what is represented in Congress and Senate. We protested the wars in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and demanded no action in Syria. What was done in Yemen and Syria were not voted on Congress (see 4th paragraph) and most wars gain support by dishonesty. Once US Citizens find out, protests get more severe and people lose offices.
If you were correct that Americans as a whole wanted imperialism, what exactly would have stopped the US after the USSR collapse? The US could have thrown Iraqis out of their Government after Gulf 1 or Gulf 2 and simply absorbed a 51st State. The US could do it in Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, and any country in Africa. There are no Countries that are a military match for the US, and there is no need for the US to use Nukes on any of those countries to take them over.
Most countries have military bases because they asked the US to put them there for protection. The DPRK will not attack South Korea simply because of that reason. Pull the US out and the DPRK would have been free to start a conflict and South Korea lacks the military to defend itself. We maintain bases in Germany because it helps to serve their defenses.
The only thread of truth in your post is that there is a very tiny number of people who are abusing power for mostly personal gain and an ideology that most people don't accept. Global World Government. It was that ideology that caused Hillary to lose much more than anything else. It was that ideology that caused the EU, and that ideology that people like Farage and LePenne are fighting against.
I'll further state that there is a whole lot of shit in US politics that "we" the people need to clean out. That is not an "America" issue, because countless governments have been infested with that same world domination ideology at all levels of their Governments too. The UK is a great example, and Nigel Farage is seen as an enemy of people like Soros who spend billions of dollars a year pushing that ideology (there are others, but he's an easy target to track down).
-The wise argue that there are few absolutes, the fool argues that there are no probabilities.
Would these be the same Chinese firms that when told of a security hole in one of their products, shrug and bring out another product with the same problem?
I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
you fucking tool - it's IMAGINARY PROPERTY
it only exists in someone's head
you can't steal it
just because the west has fucked-up laws about copyright, patents, trademarks etc. , that doesn't mean that China is obliged to follow the same stupidity
america will figure it out eventually, that they're being bilked by the lawyers, judges and corporations for extortionately inflated prices based on IMAGINARY PROPERTY ... :(
but it will be along time from now
