China Developing Manned Space Mission To the Moon
China is building a manned spacecraft capable of sending astronauts to the moon as well as near-Earth orbit flight, according to Chinese state media. From a report on CNBC: The official newspaper of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China cited system chief architect Zhang Bainan who claimed the craft is being designed to carry as many as six astronauts. The newspaper, Science and Technology Daily, quoted Zhang Bainan as saying China wished to catch up with international standards of space exploration. The fresh announcement follows a separate Chinese ambition to bring back samples from the moon before the end of this year.
...It's a moon party!
The newspaper, Science and Technology Daily, quoted Zhang Bainan as saying China wished to catch up with international standards of space exploration.
Shh, nobody tell him we lowered our standards.
Good for them. At least someone is interested in getting out into space.
...China has made impressive advancements in technology (I'll let you argue how that happened).
On the other, they have persistently shown that state propaganda goals are a higher priority than safety.
When Fascism comes to America, it will call itself Anti-Fascism, and tell you to give up your guns.
On the other, they have persistently shown that state propaganda goals are a higher priority than safety.
That would be no different than the current US president.
The joke will be o them when they find out humans can't survive above low earth orbit or pass through the Van Allen belt.
I'm an American. I love this country and the freedoms that we used to have.
I think it'd be funny if they decided that they would rip out the American Flag and put theirs in it's place. What you going to do about it, bitch?
Don't give up the day job buddy
I do not want your cheap brainburning drugs. They are useless for work. And I am a working man today.
Forty eight years after the United States did it. That seems to always be the case with China. For example nuclear weaponry - we had it in 1945 - they got it thirty years later.
I welcome this and hope they do it because as the film "Gravity" explicitly said and the recent National Geographic series "Mars" implied if you read between the lines (the first crew to go to Mars had a Russian on it but the only Asian was Korean American... hmmm....) it's going to take this before the US ever gets serious again about manned exploration of space.
Too late. He's here all week.
Seems more like Turmp is interested in 'safety' to the detriment of literally everything else.
Trump has no interest in actual safety. He has a strong interest in "security" theater. Big difference between the two. One keeps us safe and the other keeps him elected. He cares about the later. Putting a wall on the US/Mexico border will do almost nothing for safety but it will do a lot to make paranoid conservatives happy.
Time for Trump to beat them and beat them to mars!!
Time for Trump to beat them and beat them to mars!!
Agreed. I for one would love to see him go. :-)
The more space programs the less likely a human is to ever set foot on the moon again.
In other words, the more people are talking about it the less anyone is actually doing it.
The 60's were an unusual time where people believed in Jesus, did what he told them to do, worked as if they were motivated, and cared about each other. When that eroded the government failed to replace it with anything that made any kind of difference.
Anyway, I'm not sure what good a space program will ever do any ordinary person, so I say can it and let people pocket their tax money.
Why the hell a wall?
Because it makes a bunch of racist, idiot conservatives think they are solving an actual problem. People coming here to work - the horror... Ironically they could keep all the brown skinned people out much more effectively by helping Mexico boost their economy. They come here because there aren't jobs back home. What we should worry about is if the immigrants stop wanting to come here.
Done right, it is the same protection, with a lot less of an environmental impact.
Conservatives don't generally give much a shit about environmental impact. They think clean air is nothing more than a liberal plot to cost them their jobs.
Mexico's economy is booming,
Mexico's economy is something of a mixed bag and is significantly dependent on oil prices. It's a good sized economy but has rather drastic inequality between rich and poor. Those poor are the ones coming to the US because of limited opportunities back home.
Might even be wise to set up a Schengen Agreement allowing for US/Canada/Mexico free travel.
WAY too much racism and paranoia in the USA for that to be realistic though I agree it isn't a bad idea. There really isn't much point in having a guarded border between the US and Canada either.
Also: the veal sux.
I love and hate this commercial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Thank you WalMart shoppers.
Anyone want to take a bet the Chinese will try to claim they 'own' part of the moon (if not the whole thing), just because they landed on it and planted a flag, regardless of any international agreements to the contrary? South China Sea, the Moon, what's the difference, right? Just 'build' something on it, and stand there with a rifle claiming it's yours now, right?
Old and busted: The Middle East, Ukraine, ISIS
New hotness: Moonwars
There will be fire. What happens if China puts a city the size of NYC on the moon, and is the only nation to do so? Could they dominate all of terrestrial access to space including to Mars? If nuclear weapons go optical/beam (think star wars), then the moon returns to being a strategic high-ground. Don't go killing civilians.
...with Trump's ego driven presidency, this news might be *just* what we needed to see substantial actual presidential pressure to advance the US space program.
Sometimes the cards just fall right.

Filming will begin this summer, giving enough time for "moon landing" conspiracy theorists to sow the seeds of doubt and uncertainty coupled with a healthy dose of conviction.
WARNING: Smartphones have side effects--most of them undocumented.
60s-era NASA astronauts couldn't be any taller than 5'11". Gus Grissom was only 5'5"; quite tiny if you ask me. Americans in general back then weren't that tall, and looking around me (I'm over 6') they still all look short to me, especially on the east coast.
The 60's were an unusual time where people believed in Jesus, did what he told them to do, worked as if they were motivated, and cared about each other.
So the way they kept black people from voting, and beat them mercilessly when they tried to peacefully walk across a bridge, that was people doing what Jesus told them to do and caring about each other?
Let me guess;just 10 years away?
Please clean up your space debris mess while you're up there? You know... from the time you blew up your own satellite like ridiculous assholes? Thank you.
One day
Pow!
In the kisser
To the moon, Alice
To the moon
I think this is awesome... good for them. May I suggest we (humanity) abandon our military race and instead join a new space race.
Lets get that Moon base going, build a space elevator, and get to Mars, and do all the other things we should be doing instead of wasting money developing new and ingenious ways to kill each other.
Yes, I like to dream.
First step when they get there:
Kick over the American flag.

Presidents, senators, and house members of BOTH parties have gotten elected over the past several decades by promising a wall. They have raised taxes to pay for the wall. They have passed laws requiring the wall to be built (most recently in 2006 and with the support of both Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer). Bill Clinton famously campaigned with promises to deport illegals and secure the border.
The political hacks and liars in BOTH PARTIES have been doing this and then not following-through for so many years that it is now utterly politically impossible to solve any immigration issue with any big "reform" bill - too many voters have come to believe any such bill is yet another lie that will provide another flood of illegals and NO security, just like the 1986 amnesty.
Promises of a "virtual fence" or surveillance and drones etc in place of a real wall are also now known to be a lie. Barack Obama spent 8 years proving to voters that a president will flagrantly refuse to uphold his oath and enforce such non-physical barriers - Obama ordered border patrolmen who were SUPPOSED to be enforcing the border and keeping illegals from entering, to care for illegal children and do diaper duty etc and even become traffikers themselves by putting immigrants onto federally-funded flights to locations FURTHER inside the USA. Obama made it so NOBODY with a brain would ever trust a non-physical barrier
The ONLY political path left to solve any illegal immigration problems is a solid physical barrier as promised by the creatures inhabiting Washington DC for the past 30 years. That's it. The time it takes to build a wall no longer matters, nor does the financial cost - the credibility of the entire federal government is now on the line. If no wall is built this time, there will likely be a large number of people who conclude that there is no way to get DC to behave and that armed rebellion is the only remaining option. Deceit can only be rewarded for so long before the peasants rebel and it's very sad that the US Federal government has been so two-faced on this issue for so long that it is no longer trusted on this subject. To be clear: NOBODY (including me) should want an armed uprising, but it is the historic norm that societies whose governments become this dishonest and dysfunctional eventually get overthrown.
Whether you like the wall or hate the wall, at this point you should get on board with it as a necessary tool to restore the faith in government that is required to enable much needed immigration reform. Trump seems to get this, as illustrated by his numerous statements about getting criminal aliens out, building the wall and THEN reforming the system and finding a solution to the "dreamers". When congress last tried to do it all at once several years ago, the voters freaked-out at the obvious trickery and scared the congress away from the bill.
You clearly lack any credible argument, as established by your poo-flinging (calling people racists).
If a wall will not do anything about the millions of hispanics, asians, etc who are citizens of the country or are here on green cards, then how is it racist?
While we're on the subject: "Hispanic" is not even a race (assuming you were stupidly presuming the wall was just aimed at one ethnicity and that it is targeting Hispanics. Consider:
(a) Mexicans are technically of a number of "races" (assuming you thing there ARE different races, which I do not), have varying skin colors, and speak several different languages. This is also true of all the other peoples south of the USA
(b) There are Mexicans who are nearly pure descendants of the original Asian immigrants and who speak various little-known languages NOT Spanish.
(c) There are Mexicans who are a mix of locals and the Spaniards who took over centuries ago and who therefore speack Spanish - making many of them every bit as European as most "white" Americans.
(d) Many immigrants sneaking over the US southern border are from further south and have only transited through Mexico.
(e) Immigrants from places like Argentina and Brazil have ancetry and languages etc tracing back to Germany and other European nations, making THEM no more "Hispanic" or "Mexican" than somebody from Japan.
Tell me: Why do you people who demand open US borders and unlimited immigration while calling any opponent a racist never apply that standard to a non-majority-white county? I have never heard a leftist denounce Japan, China, South Korea, any African Nation, etc as "Racist" even though many of them are more homogenous and more resistant to dissimilar immigrants than the US is. I have never heard a leftist demand that Mexico have "open borders" allowing white Americans to flood in and get involved in politics, demand free schooling and healthcare etc. (Mexico does not allow white people or black people from the USA to own land in their country, and is very strict on immigration)
A few days after the birthday of Valentina Tereshkova, and you're still using that 60s/70s "manned spaceflight" thing..
Human spaceflight, if you please.
Never too early to start building a monument to the brave astronauts that will lose their lives in this endeavour.. unless they press-gang their Apple, Dell, etc. guests to provide a modicum of quality discipline to th eprogram.
Well, that was in the South, which was run by the democrats back then.
You know, the same democrats who seceded from the country because they wanted to keep their slavery.
The only democrat I know from that era who wan't a racist was JFK who, you know, believed in limited government, limited taxes and (to come full circle) started the Apollo program.
What do Democrats have to do with anything? You're the one trying to claim the 60s were some kind of wonderful time when "people cared about each other". I simply proved you wrong.
only if you are dumb enough to let your food float freely so that it destroys your computers and other electronics.
I prefer the "u" in honour as it seems to be missing these days.
"Proof" is a word that has no basis in anything outside math.
I'm saying your claims are only true for a slim exception of cases, which will always exist with any generalization as with this case and the racist Democrats.
