Wheeled Mice in X?
Ryan Hughes
asks:
"Is there a way to use mouse wheels on a
mouse in X? I have a Logitech Mouse Man+
with 4 buttons and it would be cool to use
my buttons / wheel in X.
Any Suggestions." I thought I had read
about some success in this area for certain
mouse types, however, I can't remember the
URL. Does anyone else have more
information?
Anybody have any luck getting the scroll wheel to work on Trackman Marble+? I've tried imwheel and xfree86 built in settings.... nothing seems to work. So right now I have a non-functional wheel. Rest works ok though.
Hrm... Don't know what I was doing wrong before, but that fixed it. :-)
Thanks!
No, Logitech actually makes mice which have four buttons.

I've got a Logitech MouseMan+, which has four buttons (the three on top and a thumb). In Windows the thumb button can be used to scroll - click it and move up and down, or hold it and move the mouse up and down. This is the one thing I miss when I use X - does anyone know of any software, etc, that can enable this type of behaviour?

While these items are great for persons using mice which have flywheels on them, are there any known solutions for the Genius Netmice? The non-"pro" versions have but one "up or down" button in between the two standard (left and right) buttons. Now, before i get all the flames about how poor these mice are - i've had mine for a long time, and it is the finest, most robust mouse i have ever owned. So there.
Look for imwheel at www.freshmeat.net I'm using it for a microsoft intellimouse and the README claims it also works for your mouse also.
The imwheel program is made for this kind of configuration, see method #1 in the README.
