Most cool! Now the linux.com site might finally get a decent webmaster!
;)
Oh, and that final quote from the article is golden
iSKUNK!
Not only do the Linux.Org guy not know how to put
up a reasonable web site, he doesn't like much
input from the Linux community.
If he only let the community contribute stuff to
the site, it would be a whole lot better. Similar
in spirit to Slashdot. But its too late anyway.
Linux.Org is history as far as I am concerned.
Look at http://linux.net/Products/cdroms.htm
They sell a windows95.com cd-rom set and visual basic tools cd
My understanding is that he got into an argument with Linus and others when Linus refused to put a couple of his patches into the kernel, and then he went off and sulked rather than hang around and work it out.
There was a thread on the Kernel list about him a few weeks back. You might want to go to DejaNews and check it out.

it might cause VA to change their name. I mean can you think of a more unmarketable name than VA Research? Of course, now that everyone knows VA Research, and they have more or less established a brand name, I doubt they'll change. But I still thing VA Research has got to be one of worst names their could be for a computer company.
:-)
Yes, I know there are bigger things to complain about, but that's never stopped me before
Although Microsoft maybe guilty of all the things that it has been accussed of, I only hope that the end result means higher prices to consumers. This would defeat the orignal purpose of the antitrust law. It would help business (Netscape, Sun, etc) and hurt the average consumer. These companies should try to develop a better product, beat Microsoft at its own game, rather than cry and run to Uncle Sam.

They're not even in Virginia! Why the VA?
I remember my first IBM pc back in 1982 and I was amazed at the power of it. Those guys at microsoft gave me so much commands and things I could with it, I was filled amazement. MY apple2 was much more primpitive and it was out competed by dos. Those guys at microsoft invented the idea of personal computers and it shows through their products. Microsoft invented the first program ever on a pc so dont give me that trash about Ms contributing little if not nothing for the desktop revolution. Infact Bill wrote it himself. Microsoft basic! Bill also wrote ms dos all by himself and made the best os in the world that still lies in the code of windows so it has to be good for running on 90% of computers right! Even though msdos is based on qdos, the code was totally rewritten by Bill because qdos was written for a different machine and it was awefull but Bill saved it. Wow those guys are smart. I would given a medal if I could. Thank you Bill for personal computers. Thank you for great products that make linux, lotus suite, corel office look laughable in comparison. You always have a home on my machine.
Please tell me that microsoft did not discover slashdot. Pease tell me that this wonderfull web site is gone forever and replaced with quotes from the ms marketing department

I agree. This could be really great for the linux platform, and I don't think that it will turn into a VA site. Especially with the LINUX community advisory board!
We'll just have to wait and see! (now we have yet another domain from which we will be able to get linux stuff.)
So...I go to linux.com and that's what I see. Someone should put a watch on it and tell /. when it goes live. *** Enter /. effect ***
Troll boy? Did i ever say i used windows? I currently use MacOS 8.5 and BeOS r4
hey hey Eric, what about Linux Hardware partnering up with a company like PowerLogix to develop, market, support and kick around
som kind of upgrade bundle with PowerPC CPU(s) and OpenFirmware?
The PPC750 550MHz gives a decent integer score of 1736KK/sec running latest rc5des (shivers)
Where did the Toshiba story go??
Do you people read the articles? They have secured the domain name from Fred Van Kempen. Also, they are quoted as saying it will be a general purpose linux info site. This is an excellent thing, because previously linux.org was the one most people went too, but joe windows doesn't know about the org domain, so he would try com. Anyway, a little competition never hurt anyone. Best of luck to VA Research. Its awesome to see how much Augustin is putting behind Linux and the variety of stuff he supports now. Perhaps in the end it was better for him to get out of Yahoo and start VA Research.

Now all we need to do is get VA Research to buy Linux.org! Linux.org is a poor looking site and sucks!

I could swear that you sound like the owner guy
himself.
Well, it's a kind of drug in _Neuromancer_.
Definately the worst computer company name that comes to mind. Who wants something that's "micro" and "soft"?
Think about it.
I believe what Microsoft is doing is fair and in the interest of the consumer. The only case the government has is several companies that failed to make a decent product, failed to make a competing OS, and want retribution.
Microsoft should move its operations outside of the US, pull out its assets out of the US economy. I promise you Canada, England, or even Australia will take Microsoft with open arms.
The government shouldn't put its nose where it doesn't belong. This trail is disgusting.
There is one simple reason that Microsoft is so successful, and that's because it make the best software. PED! When was the last time that the government did anything that was good for the consumer?
I've have two NT boxes running steady for over two years now, and I haven't yet had to reboot them for *any* reason. What other OS can make that claim? Linix? Sure, right!
If people would just stop whining about successful companies like Microsoft and Intel, and let innovative and bright people continue their work, all of us would be much better off. Or would you rather buy software written by the Justice Department?
Thanks.

..did this just become a M$ rah-rah post or have the kidz from Redmond been allowed access to the web? Either way, time to /ignore those idiotic postings and stick with the main topic: VA and linux.com Let's hope they make an end-all site for the Linux community. It would be nice.

And, in my opinion, it is a terrible site. Even since the update, the site is poorly organized, updated infrequently, low on information and just generally makes Linux look bad. And I remember the layout they had before this current one...it was even worse and their background didn't even TILE properly. Not even close. It looked wretched. Some college kids run better done sites out of their dorm rooms.
Plus the guy who runs it is the same one who tried to start up that "standard Linux" movement that got everyone so fired up.
I'm glad VA has linux.com . I expect that they will use it well...

I think I'll deny your ass, but thanks for asking.
Bill is a gay faggot... ... shit... MS will crumble but onle ..... SHIT...
he stole dos from some poor dumb motherfuckers

Every year during my review, I just pray the words "slashdot.org" aren't mentioned.
Could be a hint.
Could just be a lack of imagination.
My hope is that Microsoft, should they lose, will pack up shop and move operations to Japan where they're dying for a boost to their economy. This will show the IDIOTIC MEDDLING government bastards that they should not mess around with successful American companies. It will never happen, but it would be nice.
! !!!!
After O.J. and Clinton getting off scott free and now Microsoft be punished for success, I am DISGUSTED to call myself an American. D-I-S-G-U-S-T-E-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like the only thing your NT box is doing is sitting there wasting electricity. Do your power company (and the rest of us) a favor and turn it off. Also, if you've been up for more than 2 years straight without a reboot, then you must not have upgraded or applied any of those service packs, so you're a sitting duck just waiting to be owned by some script kiddie. Or, you are a liar. I wonder which one it could be?
Seriously though, this is great news, provided
that they follow through with the idea of
governing it through an advisory panel from the
Linux community.
Thank you, VA Research!

"The Internet interprets censorship as damage,
Please note that the concept of a "limited liability corporation" is government intervention in a major sense of the word. A thousand years of common law holds that the owners of a business are liable for all debts and deeds of that business. The limited liability corporation, a concept that dates back only to the 1870's and which is sustained only due to major government intervention, totally destroys that concept. The owners (shareholders) of limited liability corporations are NOT held liable for the deeds and debts of the business that they own.
In short, Microsoft (and all other limited liability corporations) is the result of a major government intervention into our economy. If you say that "government should keep out of business", you should also be against the government granting "artificial person" status to limited-liability corporations. After all, if government keeps out of business, they should keep out of business in ALL respects -- including areas that benefit current businesses (such as limited liability "artificial person" status for corporations).
