Why was he genuinely concerned yet many here are flippant? I say because it's typical. We have a lot to worry about and media as always are doing sell-by-fear campaigning 24/7.
We all wouldn't know when to be concerned, really. Because we are told to be concerned about everything!
He has obviously put considerable thought into it and his point of concern is missed. He was talking about unpredictability therefore uncontrollable outcomes. This is a valid reason enough for caution.
Abbot Point is about exporting massive amounts of coal. The Abbott Government is the most anti-environmental I have seen in my life of 62 years. He himself is a climate change skeptic and he was elected on a platform of repealing the Carbon Tax. We are only in the first year of this vandals office. After 3 years he will have done untold damage and the apathetic voters will probably vote him in again. We love economic growth and we don't want the party to end. Environmental stuff is just a party spoiler. I'm ashamed of so much that is going on here.
We heard of the problems with Simcity, now we apparently have a problem with HOTS. Bought my copy yesterday--- battlenet can't authenticate today. Over paying good money for games that don't work out of the box.
I seem to remember this as the discussion we have had before any windows release. It's just like a hammer with a different handle. We will still use it to drive our nails.
To know is impossible. Everything is claim and counter claim. We establish an idea for a period of time only. Everything is up for review therefore to know is simply a transient claim.
On the surface it appears to be the case but I think it could swing back the other way. Bricks and mortar shopping is an experience which people enjoy. What are we to look forward to? Living in isolation where everything simply arrives at our door is not a very appealing thought. The "village" atmosphere has appeal even if they are now shopping centres.
Buying cheap is not reserved to United Sates. We here in Australia are excellent bargain hunters. And China plays the role in satisfying all our cheap buying habits. But let's face it- we all like cheap. Off the subject a bit-- if the Iphone was not manufactured in China but in the U.S. then how much would we expect to pay for it today? It's an interesting question concerning the cheapness of quality items.
There is nothing to say that every civilisation has a technological sunset clause inbuilt. There is also nothing to say that we will run out of natural resources capable of sustaining our existence. There is nothing to say that intelligent life trends to extinction. Drakes equation is simply one way of looking at the subject. The subject of intelligent life in the universe will remain a mystery whilst we are using any of the current ways of thinking. We are relying on one thing and one thing alone------discovery! Until this happens and how it will happen is unpredictable, we simply must wait. Hasn't this been the way of things since the start of our technological journey. Discovery is unpredictable, serendipitous and a phenomenon all of its own. This is where I personally look for the intelligence or god entity of our universe. I am not so smug in my intelligence to rule out any possibilities when it comes to the reality of intelligent life. I am open and humble in my thoughts.
So story is-- we will keep filling the world with obsolete PC's just sitting there or here capable of working but growing little annoyances. I have found through all my years that old operating systems fail at something at just the right time-- usually something small like not doing wireless as is the case with XP on both my clunkers. Somewhere along the line of service packs the wireless networking functionality on XP became corrupted on many older machines ( Ok on wired connections though). So being that they are unsupported the problem remains. A small annoyance to home users but enough to want an upgrade of course naturally
Ok. Apple is like a religion then. Freedom of choice is still possible even when a religion is on offer. You have simply demonstrated that. You have failed to disprove Apple is a religion however.
My blog "Overthinking Man" http://overthinkingman.blogspot.com/ is a rebellious daily observation of my own defeat by living in the Age of Speed. A shameless self promotion- sorry.
Yep right here on/. I thought this was the best place to start contact because it seems to be the place most inhabited by super intelligences on planet Earth. What you don't believe me? Well what hope have we got of making contact then?
Philosophically speaking: Why do we know that there are things we don't know? It's because we can imagine. In considering aliens we can only imagine because we don't yet have the knowledge to know. We don't have the knowledge to know because we have yet to discover the tools to enable such knowledge. There is a whole new understanding ahead of us after we discover these new tools. Till then we can only tolerate the intellectual insult posed by such things as Fermi's Paradox
I have just started taking an interest in Kabbalah. The main concept in it is that reality is truly created elsewhere;it is created in a more vast spiritual realm around us not here in the physical or corporeal universe.
I notice the adaption of language to the demands of science and technology. When I was a child, near big bang, the universe was the word I used to describe all that there is. Now the notion is put that there are many all-that-there-is. In fact all that there is can be described in a universally large number of ways. This really means that it can't be described and as a result I think we may be heading for irrelevancy in all this and perhaps even absurdity. All this shows that science and mathematics are still on the journey. We can see the struggle Einstein had with all these ideas- he knew it would probably be simple.- divinely simple. Multiverse! Maybe we are heading in the wrong direction in our thoughts.
Nobody is game to enter into discussion about the reason Mckinnon gives for his crime. This would be the much publicized UFO cover up by the US. This is from the article: [But for some, his method of hacking is not nearly so interesting as his reason for doing it.] It is obviously a no go zone here on/. Only gutless geeks or very rational people respond on this site!!!! No conspiracy theorists here that's for sure. Wouldn't want to appear foolish here and now would we? After all, we've got a reputation to uphold. We are all realists. The downside is that we probably won't uncover or discover much from all our discussions here. This is because we are not game to take on the bigger issues on anything other than from a confined viewpoint whilst plodding along a safely traveled path. I have noticed that we are prepared to sweat a lot of small stuff though. Things like spelling errors, bad grammar all come under deep scrutiny and the writer is ridiculed. Again this results on no-one stepping out on a limb for fear of just that. I have found no discussion on the meat in the article here at all. How boring. Or is it that it has been done to death? In which case the cover-up was successful. Anyone who has read The Day After Roswell by the late Col. Philip Corso would know that there is definitely a cover-up and would take every opportunity to discuss this when an opportunity like this presents itself. So I ask here now. Is there anyone here that has something interesting to bring to the table on the subject of UFOs?
I checked the budget of less than $AU1000 recommended rig at the cheapest discounting store I know of here in OZ. Note; this is where the article originated. The price was $AU1163 total. I know this particular store consistently has the lowest prices nationwide and have used them for many years because of that. So- grain of salt on this article.
Until we are openly visited. Then they were the informed, gutsy, honest, open, brave people with integrity who wanted the truth to be known. This guy adds himself to many who are trying to get the truth out. I won't name any here because this will just start the same old crank debate. But we know who they are. As in faith - silence is best with this matter also.
Opera has great features and is a fast browser but no matter what I have do can't get it to log in to my blogger/google account so Firefox for me. The mail feature has never worked and I can't be bothered working out why. It's all over. Got stuff to do.
I have been using computers for art since before time ( well a long time anyway). Back in the 80's I looked at the Amiga as a valid medium for the artist to use to create fine art. It is the same as oil paint, watercolor, acrylic etc etc. Nowadays, with my Wacom stylus and Painter software I create paintings on the computer. You cant even tell that they aren't originally done in some traditional media There is no better way today than by this system. I even compose all my traditional media paintings on the computer first. Isn't that the state of art computing? And wouldn't this be better than trying to be "electronic" or computer synthetic in look? The art itself should portray the message of "here be Computer Science"- not the "look" or style thing which has been done to death. How is new art going to happen when we spend our whole time looking at the medium we use rather than the art?
Out of 10. Come on. It's like complaining about a hammer. Days of complaining about OSes is over. Use 'em. Done.

A game just has to be good. I don't care about storyline unless it's a bad story line. It shouldn't get in the way of a good game.

Bits of those poor time travelers left stranded after the LHC broke.

Something will kill him in the end. We can have confidence in that.
