Dumping their dollars (and losing their value in the process) is still far cheaper for them than to start a conventional war. And what other are those dollard good for otherwise? It's not that they have any realistic chance of ever spending most of them for real products or services.
They have learned a lot from their teachers in the scientology cult, and are now perfecting it. It's about time that China (I can see noone else with sufficient power) drops IP laws altogether and forces the rest of the world to just cope with it. At least they have a threat the US fears: if they dump all their US dollars the yearly US inflation will reach 4-digit numbers.
Pot is not legal, but if you only carry a small amount for personal use or sell it under strict conditions the state won't prosecute you. As long as sellers pay taxes of course.
Since us dutch pay a tax on empty cd's and dvd's
Did noone tell you to buy in Germany? See www.opus.nl. Besides, a lot of traders sell them (illegally) tax-free. I buy DVD's in a shop for EUR 22,50 per 100, Opus is cheaper but I don't pay delivery costs and I can just go to the shop when I need them and don't have to wait. And I'm doing nothing illegal, how am I supposed to know that price is even lower than the tax?
According to Dutch law, downloading of music and video is NOT illegal. Only uploading is illegal, and downloading of software without permission is illegal. Not that anyone here cares, no private person here has ever been sued for doing any of the not legal things.
Which will be a good thing for the government since it then can tighten its grip on its own population even more and limit those pesky civil rights even further.
Just to be sure it works on the receiver your boss or the police put on your car? In some European countries the government wants to use GPS modules to tax car traffic: an excellent reason to jam them.
That explaination is easy: "you shouldn't have BOUGHT a movie in the first place but waited until my download was complete". Downloads have no DRM shit.
OK, closed source by one company. As we have seen with numerous other p2p applications, the next thing that will happen is that under the pressure of the RIAA they will start filtering, try to transform to a payed download service and disappear into oblivion because they will get no customers.
All these problems can be solved by simply abandoning the whole idea of patents. After all, in a true free market, why impose artificial monopolies that have proven to be contraproductive?
there are many scenarios such as deciding whether the people are human shields or enemy combatants Did the US (who is developing these robots) ever care about that distinction? They're just "collataral damage". Standard oparating practice seems to be that if their family starts compklaining they get shot too.
What the hell? If they're sentient they're no longer a tool, but rather something more, and so have to be treated like more than one, yet Asimov would have us be their rulers. Convient since we're their creators, but moral? Exactly how most religions want us to act: since god/allah/whatever created mankind, we should obey it. Why should we?
It differs. My Dutch provider gives me flatrate with no datalimits for about that price (I pay separate for the connection and the internet account but that's a technicallity). I constantly download series and movies without additional cost.
However, in Belgium I would pay a lot for such behaviour...
Seems the USA have learned a lot from the practices in the former communist world. But then, all totalitarian governments act much the same, independent of the outside rethorics.
FYI, the USA didn't declare war on Nazi Germany, where the predecessors of the current president ware doing profitable buisiness with. They didn't care much. However, after the preemptive strike at Pearl Harbor, the Germans declared war on the USA.
And I hope that they release them this time in Europe at the same time as in the USA. Otherwise I'll just download them and let them complain about poor sales.
The scientologists don't have to wait until someone brings them to a camp, they have camps of their own: it's called rehabilitation project force.
And don't forget to ask Iraq what's it like to have inadequate defences.

Yeah, hiding information about horcruxes in the restricted section of the library clearly stopped Voldemort for creating one.
In Holland you can download music and films legally too. Only uploading is illegal.
The music industry has tried the same with eDonkey. Now, noone uses eDonkey anymore and have switched to eMule of aMule. The same will happen here.
They probably prefer "we want to keep them illegal so we can keep explioting this bunch of pseudo-slaves". But they don't dare to say it that openly.
They do. They are quite accurately pointing out the next step in reducing the personal freedoms in the police state that was once a free country.

Mr. president, you are a threat to humanity. Prepare to die...

Who cares what's on TV anyway? 2 days after the episode aired in the UK it's already on eDonkey and Bittorrent. Without commercials.
