Listen, if you invent butter you can patent that. If you happen to spread it on a sandwich clockwise with a broad wooden butter knife, I don't think you should be able to patent that. I will forever be against "process" patents, because they're just plain silly.

What is butter but a process performed on milk?

Do you ever do things for free that you charge for at other times? I work on computers for money but sometimes I'll do it free of charge, for friends or family or just because I like to help out. Am I a two-faced money-grubbing whore?

We need to take this further. What about children talking on the telephone? They could be talking to pedophiles, potentially making plans to meet up. The government has got to monitor all telephone calls made by people under 18. Then again, these children could be out in public meeting pedophiles, or worse, being abused. It's the government's responsibility to monitor these minors at all times, to make sure they're not being abused. It would certainly take a lot of man-power to keep know where all these children are at all times. We'd have to resort to some sort of model of distributed responsibility. How about, we have 1-2 adults focusing on every child, and become responsible for what the kid is up to? For the sake of convenience we could just have the people who birthed each child be the ones responsible for them, and if they're not available, we could assign other ones. Any takers? This could solve all our problems!

With all due respect, I think you may have been using an old version of itunes or something. I'm no great fan of apple, and I've only had an ipod & itunes the last couple of years or so, but I've never had any problem dragging and dropping songs directly from my library to my ipod. I never had to do any playing around with playlists or any such; the itunes interface seemed to work just as well (ok, it's laggier) than the 3rd party ipod management utilities I've used. Perhaps you're thinking of burning CDs from your music in itunes? That indeed does require some annoying playlist nonsense.
