Unfortunately I think our wise and noble government have decided to ditch the vellum which lasts practically for ever and go for plastic that only lasts a couple of hundred years. There was some out cry at this but given the unreliable size of their majority they can do anything they want.
On a side note the deeds of York Minster are still preserved on a Saxon drinking horn.
