  1. FACIAL Profiling on Airport Profilers Learn to Read Facial Expressions · · Score: 1

Racial? No, no, nowadays it's called facial profiling. A totally different thing! We do not profile about the color of the face, never, no, no, we don't do that...

  2. Re:Broken pipe on Use of Asphalt Paved Surfaces For Solar Heat · · Score: 1

And while here in southern Louisiana we'd love to get some energy from the horrid summer heat, the shifting ground and perpetual sinking of our landscape will surely crack or damage the daylights (ha!) out of the pipe system. Either way, it's nice to see a working effort.

  4. SimCity 2k on Twelve Game Music Tracks Worth Keeping · · Score: 1

SimCity 2k has some great tunes, including a great jazz track Central Park Sunday, or something like that. You can download the tracks for free from EA, or at least you could a year ago. Great stuff.

  5. Re:The secret to smart kids?? easy... on The Secret to Raising Smart Kids · · Score: 1

Sadly most parents today do not want to bother with teaching their kids.
Yep, I see much truth in that statement. As a private school teacher I get the "But, that's what we pay tuition for" attitude. Raising and educating children is something you outsource to the paid professionals. File a lawsuit? Hire a lawyer. Get some chemo? Find a doctor. Fix the bathroom? Hire a contractor. Teach the kids? Pay a private school. The idea of hands of teaching is something many well-to-do and aspiring ladder climbers feel they are to busy to bother with. Careers and making money seem to be more important for many, when just spending time with their kids would work wonders. Afluenza, a nasty sickness caused by too much money and not enough attention...
  6. Sounds passe but... on How Do You Find New Non-RIAA Music? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I actually like to browse through friends lists of bands that I like on Myspace. Most of these bands are unsigned or indie acts. Chances are that the bigger bands I like have friends that are new bands that often fit into the sound of the "big" band. Not always just clones, either. While you come across some music that may not be what you look for, I have found numerous new acts that I really enjoy that I learned of only through Myspace. Of course, if I want to buy a full album I can look on iTunes to see if it's there. I haven't really tried the SnoCap (or some such name) service on myspace yet. The Plastic Constellations, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Lotus, Tal Wilkenfeld, The Bird and the Bee, Marjit Vinjerui and many others are artists I don't think I would have ever gotten through the mainstream, to name a few. If some of the these acts are RIAA, sorry on my part. Trolling the friends pages has really changed how I browse music, and it has done wonders in allowing me to find tiny acts that might never make "the radar."

  7. Oy! My payments... on First Image Taken With an Ultra Low Field MRI · · Score: 0, Redundant

And to think I've got to an old-fashioned MRI this week. I can assure you that all the investments in recent big machines will be paid for before the imaging companies switch over to the new smaller units. Of course, they'll just jack the fees even higher to pay for the new machines when they roll out. I can't imagine how much they'll bend us over for MRIs now.

  8. Hide! on Is SETI Worth It? · · Score: 1

  12. Re:Because a majority of US citizens are poor? on Why Is US Grad School Mainly Non-US Students? · · Score: 1

Japan 125 million or so people US 305 million or so people China 1,305 million or so people With China having a billion more people than the US it may just be a matter of time before their entire middle class is larger than the entire US population. Yes, yes many, many poor people left out of the economic miracle. Yes, yes many problems with an overzealous and rather corrupt political system. Even so, as China continues to crank out far more college grads than the US and they continue to suck in dollars like there is no tomorrow, you better believe that by 2050 there is a good chance their total economic activity could rival the US. Don't kid yourself into thinking the US will always remain the dominant economic/military power in the world. Perhaps the US is already heading toward a slide in power. Think the Brits saw it coming when the Empire started to wane? What about the Spanish? Did the Romans know it while it was occurring? Collapse, highly unlikely... slide from #1... inevetable.

  13. Killed for Christ on Why Myths Persist · · Score: 1

Before the downmods begin, I am not pitching flamebait. Just looking at death in the name of god/religion. By far, with numbers that border on mind boggling, I find it AMAZING that far, far more millions of people have been killed in the name of Christ (scratch the surface with Crusades, Conquistadors, Salem Witches) than have been killed in the name of Satan. Weird that a few serial killers claim to kill in the name of Satan, yet the Catholic Church has murdered many, many in the name of Jesus. How is it that killing someone, condemning them to death in the name of "our lord Jesus" ever happened in church history? How does that jibe?? And then throw in the number of people killed lately in the name of Allah and Muhammad. People sure are strange...

  15. re: more evidence on The $200 Billion Broadband Rip-Off · · Score: 0, Offtopic

Now, before you bash, flame, or mod me troll... hear me out. You say we have market failure in the oil sector. People in the US love to bitch and moan about how expensive oil is (really it's gas that gets the bitching). Ever drive in Europe or Japan? Wanna see what expensive gas looks like, try over there. Few will agree, but the truth is... gas ain't expensive enough! For god's sake, we pour gas into frickin leaf blowers and burn it up pushing leaves on to neighbors yards! Gas is so cheap we drive Hummers, SUVs and other gas sucking mammoths farther then ever before. Thanks to rings of suburbs, commutes get longer, meaning we use... MORE GAS! How many people REALLY carpool? Or take mass transit in this country? If gas were too expensive that number would skyrocket... so I say, gas (by way of oil) is too cheap. Watch how many people use "gas" blowers instead of brooms with really expensive gas prices... Per gallon, gas is cheaper than milk... by a long shot. We consume more oil than any other country on the planet because the oil is too affordable. Or, we really are a country of morons that would rather pay higher prices than ride a train, bus or use a broom to sweep...
