I learned that lesson over a few months worth of payments as well. I had an autopay set up with my cell phone company, because it was $10 or so cheaper. The first month was debited the day my bill was due. The second month was taken 2 days beforehand. Still not a big deal, because i made sure the money was there. The third month....they took the payment a week early. I quickly cancelled that auto-pay. I had a hassle with the bank because of an overdraft. It was settled, but still a bitch. Now i pay with a debit the day its due.
If im not mistaken motorola has/had a few phones that could stand drop and shock to some mil spec. If they could put a smartphone into that sort of shell durability would be less of an issue
Im not sure if its possible(DRM and all that jazz) but maybe its time to educate the masses about creating their own storage space for digital files. I've been pushing my friends and family away from storing pictures and other digital content online. They are slowly beginning to understand the concept of "here today gone tomorrow." I've heard of it happening with music, games(Steam) and i guess ebooks arent out of the crosshairs either.
MS gets away with it because the Xbox isnt a phone. The exception to the DMCA seems to be (smart)phone specific. Additionally, MS has a bigger interest in keeping up security for the sake of their online community. Modders quickly become cheaters who become a nuisance to those who play fairly
It was possibly the most widely used VLK for pirated Windows XP copies. I reported seeing it used on a community college network at one point. Im sure i got that admin into some hot water
If i remember correctly, Sony(SCEA) had issues in the past with games that had content that was deemed too much for even a M rating. I understand that Australia isnt America, but i thought maybe these ideas were corporation-wide. A few titles from the top of my head that had people pursuing a AO rating included:Grand Theft Auto, The Guy Game, and Manhunt 2.
Correct me if im wrong, but SCEA seems to be against the AO(equiv. to R18+) rating
She's got no issues with berating people in her courtroom whether they be plaintiff, defendant or some random member of the audience. Granted, her show is dramatized for daytime tv ratings purposes. However, she was given the show because of her outspoken nature.
Whether you like it or not, when you step into a courtroom you're in the judge's domain. S/he has rule, and if you are wasting time I'd let you know about it too.
Take em back! If we run out just reassign them. Do we really need an internet connected refrigerator to tell us that we need milk and $grocer has the best price?
You're kidding yourself if you think struggling against these policies screws over the TSA. Joe Numbskull will still be paid for his 8 hours. If you miss your flight because you decided to revolt, well that's your fault too. I have never had to fly anywhere yet, but im being rational here. Reading about these horror stories makes me just as against these policies as the next guy. However, i am not going to fight them the day of my flight. The airline doesnt care if im in my seat or not. They will leave without me. I probably wont be entitled to a refund either if im found to be "revolting against procedure." Be smart people...attack the policy maker not the enforcement/messenger.
Im a sucker for fighting games, but i'd guess that First Person Shooters are in the same boat. Adding extra characters or maps to a game just doesnt do it justice.
The only game i bought DLC for was WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2010(?) The pack included a few new wrestlers that were on the current roster but arrived after the cutoff date. There were a few alternate costumes as well. This was sort of a double-edged sword. The developers obviously have to make a cut-off date for when they stop adding content(characters and stories) and the wrestling product is constantly growing and changing. Anyone who has played this game(or its other releases) knows that the character creation mode is quite extensive. With a bit of creativity you can make a character look like anyone and design any moveset you want(lets face it all pro wrestlers use the same strikes and throws.) Is it deliberate that they left these characters out? Probably not. Does the added content significantly change the game to make it anymore interesting? Not so much
I bought the content with an expiring cash card that had just enough for the purchase, so no big loss.
I'd have to think that FPS games are in a similar boat. Once you play the game enough that you could do it on autopilot(been there) does that new map really matter?
I do believe the developers could add more in the way of objectives to a game. Should they hold out on missions from the main story arc? No. It would make sense if they decided to add new side missions though. This would work especially well for sandbox games. In my example above, they could add a few of the more current stories from the wrestling product.
Pushing a button might not require physical access though. Someone just has to publish an app with mal-intent. Make it look pretty so joe and julie numbskull download it. Run the app to root the phone. You can reek plenty of havoc. Leave security to the users and it will always be defeated by stupidity. Vendors and Carriers alike fear this scenario. Locks are put in place so someone's shiny new toy doesnt become a slave to someone else's bidding. I have to agree with this. Pool enough zombie phones and you can bring phone infrastructure to its knees.(DDoS of local towers?) IMO, that happens enough already. There's no need to have it become the whim of a botmaster.
Userland services shouldnt be at the mercy of a carrier though. We pay enough for voice and data, so we shouldnt be restricted to carrier-based addon services(411, GPS, Email clients, ringers ect...)
im not sure about Xbox Live because im a Playstation owner, but i know that some single-player games must "check-in" with the PSN before they fire up gameplay. If a user is locked out of the PSN this is an issue(heard of it happening) but what about Live? Will these unlucky users be banished from playing even single-player games in the event they are locked out?

casual idjits dont read slashdot, but I keep my threshold above 0. My opinion might be skewed

but that doesnt really matter now does it? We know your application only supports 2 and scalability isn't an option.
I'd like to see the usage stats for that one.

May i introduce you to Judge Judith Sheindlin ...
She's got no issues with berating people in her courtroom whether they be plaintiff, defendant or some random member of the audience. Granted, her show is dramatized for daytime tv ratings purposes. However, she was given the show because of her outspoken nature.

Stores with product X for price Y have crowd patterns like Z
Here we are talking about 1000x cores when the best consumer and business applications can use "maybe" 10 effectively....
Im bad at the whole car analogy thing, but im sure someone out there has one that would fit here nicely
The day millions of morons miss their flight!

while i am against total lockdowns that cripple a phone(think VZW) I do think that some security is in order.
woah.....dont get ahead of yourself. We need to see if it runs linux first
