I would mod you funny if i could, because you've gotta be kidding. The Kindle Fire is little more than an amazon portal that puts up the facade of being an android tablet. If you want a basic android offering that includes a web browser and limited media player by all means get a Kindle Fire. There is no way it can even compete with a tablet that offers an expandable SD slot, camera, mic and presumably android updates down the line.

I work retail and I have had plenty of time to play with our display model. The UI is a bit too simple and it's content-focused. That's great if you plan to consume amazon content, but i'd rather have an android UI and navigation

EG. a multimedia app that formerly played audio over bluetooth(task 1) and prevented your phone from sleep mode(task 2) is now crippled so it can do just one of those things

Sure, the lessons from the texts were cookiecutter, but i went on to play with the concepts learned from the text. Jobs is the face of Apple; the personality. I can probably count on one hand the number of CEOs that are the public face of their company. Steve Jobs wasnt a corporate suit. In fact, he didnt wear a suit. His attire is often the butt of a joke. I guess the bottom line here is that Joe and Jane Public have heard of Steve Jobs.

Will the change of power change the company image as well? Will Apple become dull, grey and boring?

The iPad has become the "Windows of Tablets". The two arguments above are exactly why Windows still rules on the desktop.

Windows is an operating system. It can be installed on anything with the right components. Do you remember the "Vista Capable" fiasco? Just because a box has a CPU, RAM, a hard disk and a video card doesnt mean those components have to be specced high enough to run the software smoothly. Additionally, Windows doesnt rely on a walled garden of apps. Its the exact opposite. If you wanna install the latest application from www.iwannastealyourbankinfos.net you are entirely free to do so.

The ipad took off for a few reasons:

    1. - It was the first trustworthy tablet to market
    2. - It had the familiar interface and functionality that people loved with their ipod touch and iphone
    3. - It's got the developers behind it. As much as I hate to say "$x - theres an app for that" is pretty damned accurate. If you want something its probably out there. If not, you may be able to find a competent developer to write an app for you.

Im not a fan of Apple at all, but the above points are true for the most part. These are the reasons why i told my mom to return her touchpad and get an ipad.

She told me i would have to ask an in-store rep for the answer.
