The Gates Foundation has poured $218 million into polio and measles immunization and research worldwide, including in the Niger Delta. At the same time that the foundation is funding inoculations to protect health, The Times found, it has invested $423 million in Eni, Royal Dutch Shell, Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp. and Total of France â" the companies responsible for most of the flares blanketing the delta with pollution, beyond anything permitted in the United States or Europe.
The pollution it talks about is contributing to the poor health of the locals that the foundation is supposed to be helping.
PDF != open format. NeoOffice is a native OS X port of Open Office, and Open Office has their own native port now as well.
Unfortunately, both the OO.org 3 beta and NeoOffice are really slow and buggy right now. NeoOffice choked for me yesterday on a simple one-page document with tables. OO.o 3 is stuck in an endless crash loop because it's trying to recover a blank document that it crashed on yesterday.
Hopefully though, they'll iron out those bugs soon.
Unfortunately, the telco lobbysists are more vocal than your 300M whining Americans leaving congress with almost no incentive to bother with that whole "doing what's best for the people" nonsense.
Yeah, if you could fit a telegraph in your pocket and use it inconspicuously when you're in a social situation in which it would be either rude or inconvenient to take/make a phone call.
Yeah, and I won't jump down your throat either, considering that it annoys me that she'd "feel horrible if something happened because she broke a law" but not, apparently, if she does something she admits is entirely stupid. In any case, I wouldn't mind if she totaled her car and insurance didn't pay so long as she didn't get hurt, you don't learn lessons when you're dead.
I know people who text without looking (Why would you need to check your output? It's close enough to what you meant) and if the text message in response isn't important, like in the case of texting "be home in 5", it requires lifting up your phone for a couple of seconds and hitting send. Calling could definitely be more distracting depending on how proficient you are at text messaging vs. carrying on a phone conversation.
I hope the next time you wish ill on somebody because of a slashdot summary you go ahead and RTFA first.
She knows text messaging while driving is dangerous and doesn't do it often, she fully supports a law against it, and has said she'd follow that law if it were passed. But no, let's get right on hoping a 21 year old woman gets into an accident and gets hurt, that will make things better.
And I think you missed his point, which was that driving with a headset has been shown in studies to be no less dangerous than driving with a phone in your hand while you are talking to people. The "hands-free" wasn't the problem, the problem was that being on a phone and carrying on a conversation is distracting, whether you're holding it up to your ear or not.
I'd like to see a study done on whether talking to somebody in the passenger seat is just as dangerous as talking on the phone (handsfree or not) while driving. Because if it is just as dangerous to talk to a passenger, then really they can either ban talking in cars (imagine the outcry) or stop passing laws against doing other stuff in cars (talking on a cell phone). Although the texting thing is definitely a no-brainer.
A GED is exactly the same as a high school diploma, she just got it faster and moved on with life. She can still go to college if she wants to, she's only 21, and if she's that bright, she'll make short work of the place and have job experience to boot. Dropping out of high school is the best decision some people have ever made.
Oh, and you were bitching about personal attacks, what do you call the entire fucking diatribe in caps lock you've got there?
I've had almost the same experience as you, and I can't quite figure out what on earth peoples' problem is here. If somebody could explain just exactly what it is in their normal way of doing things that has been broken by the AwesomeBar, I'd love to hear it, because up to now I've just seen a lot of bitching and little explanation.
And when they offer Ubuntu or Freedos as an Operating System choice in the list on the customization page and not just tucked away on a completely different part of the site, perhaps that'll be a reasonable argument.
The XP offering being more expensive is sorta the topic of discussion here, so unles you're specifically looking for linux, Dell is offering only two options, and one of them is to pay extra a Vista Ultimate license in order to get a copy of Windows XP because (drum roll) Microsoft can force an upgrade on you by artificially ending the XP lifecycle and inflating Vista sales figures by selling you a license to an OS you won't use.
I was going to yell at you for using the old, tired meme, but then I decided to RTFA (I know, I know) and noticed that... well, netcraft really does confirm it.
From what I remember of the discussions during their 2.0 release, they actually have a ton of mirrors all over the place that they cycle through to have you download from when you click that button on the first page.
In this case, their own servers shouldn't have been handling much of the actual download traffic, so they shouldn't have been buying a ton of extra hardware to deal with the spike. That said, I'm not sure what DID bring their servers down, could enough people just loading their front page at the same time have done that?

Vrms was written by Bdale Garbee and Bill Geddes for the Debian GNU/Linux system, in response to an open discussion with Richard Stallman
It's not purely for reactionary reasons, it's because without the lead developer, chances are the filesystem is going to die and no longer be supported with security and feature updates. Better to start the migration now.
The day they change their attitude and start producing quality standards-based products, is the day we start liking them, no matter their size Unfortunately for them, should they ever try it, we'll likely pounce on them, be tremendously skeptical, and accuse them of attempting to "embrace and extend". Any change in their behavior patterns will likely just result in us thinking they're a wolf in sheep's clothing and it will take a long time before people begin to trust that they're serious.
That and Microsoft can't stand competition from Apple any more than it will release new versions of IE and Office on OSX. http://www.macoffice2008.com/
You don't, the theme is included by default now on Firefox 3 Beta 3, beta 2 and earlier required you to download the theme because it wasn't ready for primetime yet.
It might be that the suicidal thoughts were already there, but the depressed person didn't have the drive previous to the little kick that the anti-depressants give to actually do it. I'd imagine that killing yourself requires a lot of energy that the suicidally depressed do not always have, and if the medications don't stop the depression, but give them enough energy to go through with the suicide...
A picture only takes a few moments to create.
Tell that to a photographer. A picture can take a long time to create, and often does if it's done right.
GP didn't even say that ... what are you talking about?
By the time you get to that 4th command, there's no way you're "accidentally" deleting everything.
