So you're talking about something more in the mould of Rainbow Six. Now that could be interesting. Rainbow Six worked very well for something that was effectively a new genre, and Xantrix appear more than capable of pulling off a 3d version of the old Wolfenstien.
Actually I've been playing my VCD mpeg Matrix under KDE for some months. The moral being that there is always a way round things. Actually being able to do this from DVD will be great though.
Couldn't agree more. The last compaq I used ended its life with me leaping up and down onto of the moterboard screaming "bastard, bastard bastard!" Suffice to say the fools had welded the cpu in, so when I was dismantling this old 486 for parts I couldn't even take the cpu to use as a coaster. On the other hand, apart from using some non-standard RAM, I problem I understand that doesn't happen now, my father's Dell P200 is a very nicely built machine. ditto my brothers old Dimension 486Dx2-66. mine? Well its self built, but if someone asks me where to buy a PC, I always point them at Dell.
Yews, we all build a huge super race of LEGO Mindstorms super robots and storm Microsofts HQ! Now does that o'reilly book explain how to mount 30mm cannons on a robot?

Ditto, no problems with my Voodoo2/256MB/AMD K6-2-300 and pretty idnetical to your spec too.
They've gone off in different directions. 3dfx went for speed, the rest went for pretty. The trouble is, 3dfx's speed advantage has vapourised in anything other than Glide. Don't get me wrong, my current card is a Voodoo2 and so far I've had no reason to replace it but unless 3dfx do that mystical "Voodoo TNG" you mentioned when I do it'll be with a GeForce.
It's a big internet. Very helpfully there are links to several other GeForce reviews a few post above here. If you don't like Tom's site avoid it, Or, failing that hire Iraqui gunmen to go round his house and steal all remaining copies of the book.
That much is true, but except through sheer incompetance raw numbers don't tend to lie. In any case at the moment this is the best information we have and I think its at east conclusive enough to make the Dual-memory one fairly tempting.
This got changed a few months back. Win 2000 is really now an NT replacement. There is supposed to be a 98 replacement next year.

The BBC have an article up about this at This page
Pretty much the same as we know but its got a picture of a normal tree on it. Which is nice.

And I'm writing this from NT now.
I have got linux (SUSE6.1 if anyone cares) but I don't seem to use it apart from for university projects.

NT hasn't got the theoretical uptime limit of linux so is more mission critical. Expect to see it on their site within 3 days... :)
Yeah, saw those later. Sorry about that. They all seem to say pretty much the same thing though.
