One problem is the market won't solve the affordable housing part. I'm outside Vancouver, which has similar problems. They're building like crazy, especially in the close by suburbs (Vancouver itself isn't that big). Unluckily what seems to be happening too much is the cheaper apartments and such getting torn down and replaced by expensive condos as that is where the profits are. There are a lot of people becoming homeless due to the shrinking number of affordable places and by homeless I don't mean the street people (and there's a lot of them too) but people living in their cars, couch surfing and such. The new Provincial government is doing various things to help but there is a lot of inertia, developers want the maximum profits, same with landlords. There needs heavy subsidies, incentives and even pure government help and in some ways things seem hopeless as people want services but don't want to pay for them (or can't when most of their income goes to housing) and governments are going right.
Good idea. Too bad that the feedback option seems to be hidden by default, or at least starting out by right clicking feedback and choosing search and then clicking various things in the new browser window, didn't allow me to find it. Something else to give feedback on.
OTOH, when searching for info when working on my truck, Google usually returns better results. There are certain forums with knowledgeable people who have walked people through similar issues that Google will return close to the top, which DDG hasn't seemed to have indexed, or at least doesn't list.
They're a public company, it is expected they produce the maximum returns for their shareholders and shareholders are stupid enough to believe the maximum return is caused by expanding forever rather then having principles.
The advantage to her is that if passport photos are sent to a government database of faces that is distributed to facial-recognition systems (say, looking at images from security cameras), she won't be recognized, and thus her movements won't be picked up and tracked.
Exactly, there's also a good chance she isn't planning on traveling anywhere where a passport is required.
It's probably the database of photos of peoples faces that they don't like. I know I don't like it. Soon I have to submit to having my photo taken to continue legally driving, I don't mind the drivers license but I do mind the digital copy going into some database to be abused by the government and whoever hacks into it, it'll probably find its way to facebook so they can figure out who I am.
It was a good idea, the Air Force made demands on performance (IIRC, flying over the USSR and returning to its launch site in one orbit) that crippled it for routine missions. As well the engines needed much more servicing then planned.
Most of Canada's voting is also "person with the most votes wins" yet we have 3rd parties, especially at the Provincial level. Quebec just voted in a new party, along with another new party coming in second for example.
We got sidetracked into a conversation about civil forfeiture and whether the right supports it or not.
The real problem with large birds are the power lines, and most forms of power come with power lines. For small birds, it is cats and buildings. http://www.sibleyguides.com/co...
Seems the biggest killer of large birds are power lines, at least in this article from 2003, http://www.sibleyguides.com/co... The biggest killer around here of large birds may well be bullets and shot. The lakes are full of them and birds eat them, they go into the crop and bird gets lead poisoning.
What about windows? Number of birds killed by buildings, close to a billion annually, perhaps 10% of the total bird population and only second to cats. (US numbers) https://www.washingtonpost.com...
There's been a lot of scams up here where the scammers pretend to be from the CRA (Canada Revenue), demanding payment now to avoid arrest. Some people don't even catch on when they demand payment in itunes cards.
I'd be surprised, but not too surprised, if banks had peoples pins on file. Whenever I've got a new card, the teller takes me to the ATM, explains things and then turns their back on me while I enter my (new) pin.
The law doesn't say anything that stops borrowing a recording and copying it. You could call it a loophole or it could be something that was done on purpose. How is having a ftp server running in the background equal communicating to the public by telecommunication. You're part of the public but without an invitation or being lucky in guessing, you won't get very far on my ftp server. My private circle, I could give a login to.
In the 21st century, democracy usually means representative democracies, which include Constitutional Republics where you vote in representatives such as America. And of course, tyranny whether it is the tyranny of the majority or tyranny of the minority, is bad and where the idea of compromise could limit the tyranny. And while, for example, you have the right to speak your mind, there are still limits. No amplifying your words to cause physical damage to others, this is usually extended to noise bylaws where the volume that you speak is limited depending on location and time. No screaming outside of others houses in the middle of the night. Rights often involve some compromise, with the famous example of your right to swing your fist ends at my face. Self defence being limited to credible threats and so on. Even your freedom of association may be limited by who your neighbours are.
We are free to copy music we didn't buy. While we were not free to distribute, the courts rulings on making it available were pretty lax. I could put music on an ftp server and you could pull it, but I could not upload it to your ftp server. From http://www.musicbymailcanada.c...
"Private Copying" allows Canadians to make copies of pre-recorded material for personal use, either from music recordings they've purchased or music recordings they've borrowed from a friend. But there are still rules that must be followed to make this copying legal.
Copying Music Legally
As previously mentioned, Canadians are allowed to make copies of the recordings they've purchased and strangely enough, even recordings they borrowed from friends. But several rules as to how copies are to be made and what can be done with the resulting copies are specified in section 80 of the Copyright Act :
A Canadian must perform his or her own copying. You can't ask a friend to do it. It's your "Private Copy".
You can't give, trade, rent or sell the resulting copy. So basically your copy must remain in your possession.
You can't broadcast or play the copy in public or allow anyone to do so. This means your copy can't be aired on radio, even on the net and that its public performance is limited to private gatherings, not including any paid event or large gatherings. Additional information for DJs can be found by clicking here.
Obama is not in power and the post I replied to claimed that Republicans (excepting the police) are against civil forfeiture. Just because Obama was a huge disappointment doesn't mean everyone has to disappoint.

People spent 10s of thousands of years as hunter gathers who only needed to work 4 hours a day on average.

So the hydro that supplies my power is not baseload as it can be turned on and off quite quickly?
That's what that call was. Oh, BTW, when a bank (or credit-whatever) issues a new card, they ALWAYS give out a new PIN!!
My credit union walks me to an ATM, tells me to enter a pin and turns their back while I do it.

Democracy is supposed to be about compromise, but America seems to be about sticking it to the other side lately, something that can't end good.
If I was an American, I couldn't imagine voting for either of the main candidates. I found it depressing that there weren't more 3rd party votes.
Didn't finish my posting, here's the actual law. http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca... which basically agrees with the above post.

Not just optical media. We pay extra for flash and magnetic drives.
No we don't. After the courts ruled that the levy on blank CDR's meant a license to copy music, they lost interest in more levy's.
