    I agree, but...

Harris and Klebold did exactly that for almost two years before they went nuclear. And it was ignored (well, not entirely. The mother of one student was up in arms about it for ages).

The guy that went nuclear on a military base not long ago also did similar things, but nobody acted upon this.

There is a fine line between prudent concern and over-reactive fear-mongering.

There is also a fine line between threats and casual free-speech.

Who determines that line? The threatened, or the Free-speaker?

It is all a matter of perspective, and my suggestion was that that perspective must take into account multiple views. An off-campus talk would have addressed both of those perspectives without undue repercussions. If it was found that she was just venting, then the school admin and the cop leave. If they find that she is unstable and a danger, the issue requires further investigation/action.

Personally, I see no difference between her stating such things on Facebook and stating it in public, in person. Anyone that expects privacy on Facebook is a fool.

A better approach would have been a high-level admin from the school approaching her OFF-campus, with a police officer in tow, and discussing the issue with her. It solves the issues of endangering other students/faculty, possibly preventing publicly humiliating her and a police presence would emphasize the seriousness of her actions/statements. This all could have been done as soon as the school was informed of the situation.

Why did they wait for her to actually come to the campus where things could have gone from bad to seriously worse?

    Actually, no, it hasn't.

When I was in High School, the campus had an open layout. DOZENS of entrances to dozens of buildings. Completely impossible to put metal detectors in every entrance because every classroom was a separate building.

We also had a smoking section.

In short, the school trusted their students, even to the point of allowing them to make their own informed decisions regarding smoking.

Now, with Columbine in the mix, would I have felt safer with all the metal detectors, cameras, etc in place?

FUCK no. If something similar had happened at my High School, I would have had dozens of EXITS to get away from any danger. Instead, today, we have High Schools that are basically a trap for anyone caught inside during such an attack. Now, attackers only have to cover a couple exits to keep their victims from escaping.

The only reason I know about this video (content is simply not there, it is the LENGTH of the video that is important, 4 hrs 36 mins) is because I am a Comcast "customer". The reset packets in my torrent downloads were getting annoying(the uploads, actually. But that effects the download rates).

What I found is that the reset packets seemed to not be a problem as long as I had some other data-stream going at the same time. Basically, my torrent download rates SOARED as soon as I added some other data to the stream. I simply load the video while I am downloading torrents and the problem of reset packets seemed to go away entirely. While the video is over 4 hours long, it buffers in about 2 hrs. That gives me 2 hours of full-speed torrents. I simply clear my cache and reload the video every 2 hours.

My bookmark for the video is labeled "Fuck you Comcast".

Sure, it is a complete waste of bandwidth, and only compounds the issue of bandwidth abuse, but then again, Comcast never told me they were censoring/hindering my internet usage. When they stop, I'll stop. I have a 250GB bandwidth cap and have NEVER exceeded it, yet they still drop reset packets on me. Fuck you, Comcast.

There is NO reason to do this except to make sure you have a functioning battery.

In short, they are forcing the user to buy a new battery if the old one doesn't work, even if the user never intends on unplugging the thing from the wall.

The worst part? The "live" BIOS flash system Dell uses also allows viruses to infect the BIOS, forcing the user to re-flash if infected.

Only reason I know this is I worked on a friends laptop, cleaned it of infections only to find out the BIOS was infected as well. When I tried to flash the BIOS, it failed with a message that explained that I needed a battery installed. It was installed, but dead. I basically had to inform my friend that he needed to buy a new battery to disinfect his machine. He opted to buy a new laptop instead. A NON-Dell.

The really nice thing about services/experiences, as a gift, is that you usually know who is benefiting from the purchase. Buy someone a round of golf at the local course? The guys working there at the course benefit. Buy someone a trip to Catalina Island for the weekend? The people that live there benefit. It keeps the money in OUR economy (unless you're buying someone a trip to Uruguay...but, hey, Urugauyans need money too. At least you know it is going to them and not some anonymous corporate shareholder).

Giving someone an experience...well, it is the gift that keeps giving regardless of time or place. You simply think about it to continue enjoying it.

My usual gift to the family is a lavish, one-of-a-kind Christmas dinner (I used to be a chef). Last year it was a cream-based bouillabaisse made with green-lip mussels, soft-shelled crab, sweet scallops, jumbo prawns, fresh Copper River Salmon and served with the best San Francisco sourdough bread I could get my hands on (not that crap from the supermarket...I prowl the city looking for the real stuff).

I'm hesitant to hop on conspiracy bandwagons, but this made me wonder as well. The icing on the cake was seeing the video from the Pentagon parking lot (security camera on a lamp post) that showed the Pentagon very shortly after the impact. There is one odd thing that, so far, I have yet to see ANYONE discuss.

The impact of airliners hitting the WTC was shown to create a massive fireball of ignited fuel. Massive amounts of BLACK smoke resulted as the fuel continued to burn. Understandable. The fuel is a hydrocarbon.

The smoke coming from the Pentagon, as shown in the video from the parking lot, was WHITE. No black smoke until much later when the building, and the objects inside, began to burn.

What happened to all the fuel from the supposed airliner that we are told hit the Pentagon?

The only conclusion that I can come up with is that it was not fuel, but something else, that caused the fires in the Pentagon.

The first thing that came to mind when trying to explain the white smoke? Ever watch a rocket launch? White smoke from the burning solid fuel components.

I'm sorry, but that video alone is enough to tell me that, at the VERY least, we were all lied to about the Pentagon. If they will lie to us about that, then I think it is entirely plausible that we could be lied to about the entire "attack".

I find it interesting one of those pager messages mentions a helicopter striking the Pentagon(or White house). If one did, I assume it would leave black smoke as well (the fuel onboard burning). The video doesn't show black smoke. But a rocket from a helicopter would leave white smoke.
