This may be off topic and moderated as such, but why is it that Diebold can make ATM machines that don't seem to get hacked, but can't manage to prevent hacking in their e-voting machines? Call me crazy, but wouldn't there be just as much motivation (if not more) to hack ATM machines as there is to hack e-voting machines? Something smells fishy.
to what is still in short supply: live concerts, t-shirts, mugs, unique (signed?) physical items and such Correct me if I'm wrong, but the label's don't usually receive revenue from these things. The actual artists do, but I completely understand where you're coming from. I have been telling people for years that if I were to ever start a band or something, I'd use my music as a form of advertising and focus on making my money from live shows and merchandise. That's not to say that you couldn't make money from the music itself. Shit, take a look at RedHat. Although you could download it for free from their website (think 5-10 years ago), people would still buy the RedHat software from stores because it was 1.) convenient, 2.) you had a physical medium and documentation in which you could reference in the event you lose your soft copy, and 3.) there's the people who view that sort of transaction as a donation to the company for providing such an awesome product.
So they either shaft the consumer with DRM, or shaft Apple by removing DRM. Granted the latter is friendlier to the consumer, but when will the labels put and end to shafting people and just give their customers what that want without ulterior motives? Probably when their shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbet.
Good thing anyone that matters probably doesn't read PC Magazine, with the exception of maybe the Windows fanbois..in which case they're just preaching to the choir.
This was in TX? (I obviously didn't read TFA) Whoa, I'm amazed they permitted this sort of thing to happen in TX (I'm from Austin). Usually this sort of thing would get you a good old fashioned caning.
I really wish Valve would put out a Linux client so us Linux-only users can play HL2 + sequels without the performance rape associated with using Wine (no hate on the Wine project...it kicks ass at what it does). Ah well, I guess we'll have to wait for Microsoft to shoot themselves in the foot for a few more years before that will ever become a possibility.
I have a sneaky suspicion this is what happened with season 2 of Dexter. The first two episodes had been floating around various torrent sites a good 2-3 months before they had aired on Showtime, not to mention the final two "pre-air" episodes had leaked out about 2-3 weeks ago (the season finale airs this Sunday). For those of you who havn't seen Dexter, oooooomg you don't know what you're missing. I'd say it's easily the best show on TV right now.
Actually, he kills only when he can satisfy the Code of Harry. It just so happens that some of the people he's killed have slipped through the cracks of the justice system. He's not killing to make things 'right', he's killing because his Dark Passenger needs to be let out every now and then.

I'm quickly losing faith in the OLPC project as they make decisions like this...

It must run Linux...
I think this is more of a restriction being forwarded from the studios.

Ding dong, yo.

So a little chaos theory for traffic eh?...interesting.
Isn't that a bit of a pain in the ass?
Nice to see the govt has recruited the help of the Decepticons.
etqw all the way!!!!
when I can legitimately say to my future wife "hey babe, can you pick up some uranium-235 next time you're at the store?"
Our kids are probably going to be saying the same thing about the channels of information that our generation utilizes.
Next time they should bribe voters using a plain unmarked briefcase as opposed to a canvas sack with dollar sign on it.
Am I the only one surprised that this was actually posted here before the deadline?

The ones that I had downloaded definitely didn't have the scrolling banners.

My brother lived in Alaska for 5 years. I went a visited twice during the summer. My god it was beautiful up there.
..I bet their tire rotation bill will be an unpleasant surprise.
