I think its common knowledge that the refresh rate of your monitor and frame rate of your card have alot to do with "headaches, irritability and nausea" which I would call "motion sickness."

Antecdotal evidence ... when quake2 came out I played it on my voodoo rush card which would get around 12 fps ... It would take me about 30 mins to get sick with it ... I got a riva zx card which could do about 25fps, and it now takes a couple hours for me to get sick :)

My god... I can't believe I'm reading this. You DO work in the tech industry, right? I mean.. two weeks notice is nice and all, but you can do it.

nope no contract ... what I mean to say is that quiting a job is a serious proposition -- a life change. I can't get up and quit because I hate it, not because of my job, but because of the people I support and the financial commitments I have. My life is a very carefully stacked game a jenga, pull one brick out and the whole thing crumbles know what I mean? :) I need time to re-arrange the bricks before I pull one out ... that means paying of CC's, finishing school, saving enuf money to be out of work for a month, and finding a job that won't cause me to relocate :) THAT will take 6 - 8 months to accomplish.

This is what I mean by I can't just get up and quit, and I'd gather alot of people are in this boat as well :)

I think alot of the reason tech support is evil is if tech support were to admit there was a problem the company would have to do something about it ... I bought a Philips 825 dvd player a year ago, and it graudlly stopped playing MOST single layer dvd's, I've got an entire stack of DVD's I'm waiting to watch when I get a new player ...

If you call tech support, they act like your machine must be broken (and its out of waranty) and they've never heard of anyting like that before ... yet if you goto audioreview.com theres atleast 100 complaints with the same problem ..

So long story short, in this case tech support won't even admit theres a problem!

The fact is I can't quit my job for atleast another 6 mos [ and I am counting the days believe me ] ... any job you can walk away from on a whim is probably one where your serving fries.

When I went to payroll to see about overtime, the [helpfull] lady told me that if I marked the hours as overtime, there was a loophole they could use to get out of paying me for the hours all together [some comp time scam]! What is to stop sony music from downloading *MY* songs and publishing cds of my music without permission / compensation? This could be the best thing that EVER happened to music distributors ... we'll build a base of music they don't have to pay for at ALL.

Similaraly, someone could dowload my tunes, add a few breakbeats to them, and claim they've made a derivitave work and sell that work under a different name.

Thats the exact problem GPL software has (in my oponion) ... your not profiting from your work because of your altruism, but Red Hat and Mandrake are.

I think what it comes down to is, if the creator is not profiting from his music, why should others profit from it.

At best television is a loss-leader revenue model, give away something for free, hope people make it worth your while ... remind you of anything else thats failed latley ? ...

I believe the add-banner and commercial problems are coming from a complete advertising overload ... EVERYWHERE you look theres advertising ... after awhile it just blends into the background ... and who pays attention to the background?
