Actually its from a SNL skit ... Although the donald duck thing is a damn good guess :)

In the SNL skit, the inhabitants of town are having a town meeting, EVERYONE is dressed in gold and jewels, wearing kings crowns, carrying scepters etc etc ...

A man at the podeum adressess the crowd and says, "Ladies and gentlemen, I think we need to talk about the magic fish problem. As you all know, magic fish are getting harder and harder to come by these days, and the ones we do find, often aren't very good." Someone from the crowd chimes up "Yeah, and some of them have an attitude! Yesterday I was fishing and I caught a magic fish and I asked it for a golden rocketship that would take me to the moon... You know what that fish said? He started talking about weight ratios and how gold wasn't good for making rocketships... So I smashed his head in!" the man at the podeum chimes up, "I think we need to transition to a non-magic fish based economy." (and the skit continues ...)

Basically the villages economy was based on magic fish (which grant wishes when caught). Its obscure but it seemed to me like latley magic fish = dot coms :)

Needless to say, a more passionate "Fuck you!" was never heard.

Just how hard is it to run a set of patch cables? The performance loss is far less than what you get on MP3 as it is.

Back in 86 I had by all rights one of the first cd players to come out, a Magnavox (IIRC) that had a "digital out" on the back (coaxil s/pdif). I used it until a belt broke in early 2000. I had no clue what the s/pdif was for most of the time I owned it, but I can't help thinking what an awesome tool that would be for making mp3s!

Everyone knows that nobody can really see the difference between 40fps and 100+fps

This is true but you've missed the point ... FPS is a measurement of *average* framerate. Ultra fast cards are an attempt to raise the *worst case* performance of the card not the average case. A mere side-effect of this is raising the FPS.

You are *ALWAYS* free to not use other peoples code, then you can do what you damn well please ... you just can't do what you damn well please with other peoples work.

I'll admit the duality of using restrictions to give freedoms seems paradoxical ... BUT, the GPL gives you more rights then an EULA i've ever seen.

If you don't like it, use the BSD lic ... M$ will love you for it.

It sounds to me like you want the "freedom" to use GPL'd material without the "obligation" of releasing your own source ...

Window's answer to crond is every program that needs to schedule something includes its own task bar scheduler that eats 5 megs of ram. His plots are a vehicle for the dialog between his characters ... which wouldn't be a bad thing *IF THE DIALOG WASN'T SO CONTRIVED*.

KS movies aren't in touch with anyone and aren't in tune with anything or anyone. A great remark I heard on PBS "The difference between Steven Speilberg and Martin Scorsese (sp?) is that Steven Spielberg wants to make a movie that touches everybody, Martin Scorsese wants to make a movie that touches Martin Scorsese."

Which is really what this comes down to -- this movie is prolly a masterpiece to KS, but to me its a heaping pile of ...

Lastly, Id like to pose the question, where does katz get off liking these guys then panning something like the final fantasy movie ... both were devoid of meaning and were generally awfull movies. The difference though, is jon katz is incapable of liking an "insider" film and is incapable of hating an "outsider" film. The glass is half empty for FF and half full for J&SB.
