    Yes, considering the fact that computers are not like roads, and that since most run Microsoft Technology, they can perform at Mach 10 at a point of time and be out for 10 months the very next moment on. So how can we expect anybody to map out "reliable" routes?
    They'll most probably end up with so many "bad" routes that used to function well when they tested it, that they'll do the survey all over again.

    Still, I wish the company a lot of good luck.

    Whatever happens, one site won't go down. That's iotaspace - No routes required, coz all roads lead to this place, at least eventually....

    So now are we heading to a WAPlike situation?
    In the WAP scene, the mobile Biggies came together and formed a mutual technology to make stuff uniform.... like websites common to all mobiles,etc....
    Now is this thing going to happen for the Boxes too?
    Like the mobiles, even the boxes have different hardware, but the users want similar software... so are we going to have standard specs, formation of consortiums by Sega,Nintendo etc. to standardize how Quake will be deployed on a Box?
    Sounds wierd, but that's how i see the future is.

    See, when people smoke in front of you, you cough and tell them to go away since you could die in his smoke.
    But then what about mobiles?
    Mobiles are so commonplace today,every second person next to you is yapping on his cell. What do you do? tell him to go outside? I think you should. Because smoking is avoidable, you can use a hnkerchief to screen out some of the smoke. But what do you do about mobiles? Use leadhelmets?

    Another thing. Know Bluetooth? yeah, any device 3m away from you will have radio on it. And so, effectively, in office or any civilized area, you're fried in Radiowave. How's that.

    How's that for the future?

    Yeah, so we're going to have people in Space suits screaming, "Going up!". Funny.
    NASA always dreams big, and falls nostly on its face.
    This time, here, are a few things they missed out, which might just happen....

    Case one:
    An asteroid coming really close to the Earth might just try to go past the ribbon like connector, and in the true Olympic Spirit, Break the ribbon, and finish things off. It'll be fun to see the Elevator Duct Snap because of a "furball".

    Case two:
    If they miscalculated.
    (they do it so often...)
    The counterbalance asteroid might just take its own turn, and snap the cord.
    Or better still, if the elevator line is strong enough, it might just yank the Earth out of it's orbit.
    That'll be REALLY cool!!!

    By definition, most polymers(plastics) are bendable. Sincethere is no rigidity like silicon here, I suppose we could have televisions or computer screens wrapped on Basket balls.
    I think its possible.
    This also brings cool,cool applications into my mind. If I had a TV - T-shirt, I could have a video cam on my back and show It up front. In effect, I'm Invisible!!! hahahah!
    But, definitely, Plastics are the future, and If one projects a little bit further, you'll see we're all heading towards mimicking nature.

    Yeah, like if you have a domain in say, swahili, that's the official site for The country's government, How does the Japanese community type the domain to go to the site?

    I see the future with this domain system pretty stupid.
    The American Embassy, for Instance, have 24 sets of Keyboards per computer- to access the sites of the other countries.

    This Open Source thing is confusing. Today we have Inprise against the masses. Tommorow we'll have disagreements between the Developing folk of major products and this could lead to more forks. and fights. And more confusion for the meek programmer about which side to take.
    On the other hand, the choosy programmer will have a good time. You can take EXACTLY what you want, and fighting groups will work equally hard to beat the other with better programs.
    Dont know which way we're heading.

    Remember that Sony Camcorder that had infra red capabilities?
    Yeah, and some people reported that in a particular mode, you could see thru clothes!!
    Bet the R&D team kept that a secret. Must have had a lot of fun testing it.
    But since Sony has such a good marketing wing, the product was all over South East Asia and they had a tough time recalling back all the pieces.
    But I would give anything to somebody who has a piece left.

    Suppose I have an assembler(card) based on this chip, then I suppose the comp. can run on Win98 and the card on Linux? Are there any interfacing problems? If not It'll be really cool for 2 OSes to coexist.

    See, Linux still has'nt penetrated that far that there'll be every teen using it for his OS.
    I can say for sure that the people buying these games is either a sys admin or a developer who doent want to dual boot to entertain himself.
    Especially when the rising sales of Linux are only mostly as a substitute to NT, and not to 95 or 98.
    So until the kid next door does'nt switch, id can wait.

    If I would take my laptop out for a spin around Pluto during a spacewalk, suppose; I would need to check whether it worked, wouldnt I?

    Yeah, these guys are crazy I agree, but if NASA did this expmt 5 years in the future, it would make sense.

    (The laptop busting, however should be reported to the SPCC)

    If you see how slashdot works[source code], you'll realize that it's not possible to post any 2 things before a minute has elapsed between them. That is, if you post something. and then another thing in 2.003 seconds after that, It wont be accepted. So how did this happen? how did the author post 2 messages so fast? Either Rob wrote this part of slash (that's what the code is called) in his sleep, or we're missing something.
    Mr. CmDrTaco, Please reply. If there's any error in the code, please tell me, coz I'm developing a site using the code.

    True, the way the prices tumble. I have had *very* unfortunate experiences where I lost a lot of money in these times.(486 one month b4 Pentium, etc)
    But What about that "true essence of technology" bit?
    These techies want more money, so they cant wait to get down to release their new product, which is just one or 2 instructions added to the previous. That's what infuriates me.

    It's nothing but downright robbery. In the old days you had a 386, and a major leap to the 486. Now every other day they release a processor only *Marginally* Better than the one before. and Spend huge amounts on marketing and ads, and you have people switching to the newer one. I mean 1GHz, 1.2 or 1.4; how much difference is it going to make to anyone who uses only the wordprocessors? Some thing similar to the Cars in the 70's and 80's, where the Big Three spent a lot of money in Style than in Safety. Hope people come to their senses and act sensibly.
